Mmmmm! The Commissar sure knows his ‘maters-the German Johnson is still one of my favorite tomatoes. If I’ve gotten enough home improvement done by the springtime I may actually plant a tomato garden on the poor forlorn spot on my property that once served as a garden.

I like tomatoes.
Never had fried green ones, the neighbor that was going to cook them moved away.
This is what I remember about buying tomato plants, any variety that is advertised as “Giant, Big, Hughmungous…etc” doesn’t taste as good as regular ones. I guess the same goes for other veggies.

(grin) I’m glad y’all enjoyed the post. I was guestblogging for Comrade Commissar for the last couple of weeks, and wrote the discourse on heirloom tomatoes over the weekend. (Original post here, crossposted over at The Politburo Diktat.)

I live in a tiny little NYC apartment now, and it hurts me to my soul that I don’t have room for a garden. I have to live vicariously through the gardens of others, and rely on the (admittedly very good) little Greenmarkets in NYC that sell locally-grown produce.

The tomato sandwiches were glorious.
