1. Mrs. Peel - November 21, 2006

I’m so sorry, RG. We will definitely have them both in our prayers.

2. Mrs. Peel - November 21, 2006

and will you please keep us updated?

3. compos mentis - November 21, 2006

Aw man RG, I’m sorry. Already said a prayer for him, brother. Please keep us posted when you can.

4. Michael - November 21, 2006

Same here, Pat, and we’ll remember you and Mrs. G in our prayers also. It’s hard to imagine how difficult this must be.

(Psa 46:1-5 NASB) God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy dwelling places of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.

5. Dave in Texas - November 21, 2006

same here.

6. Retired Geezer - November 21, 2006

Here’s his website, if it helps you get a handle on who you’re praying for.

http://heliman.us

One of the stations was reporting that the same helicopter was involved in a ‘pilot error’ crash in Idaho.

That is correct however my son was not the pilot. His company bought the helicopter after it was rebult.

7. Dave in Texas - November 21, 2006

RG, email me brotha

8. BrewFan - November 21, 2006

I have and will continue to pray. My heart aches for you all right now.

9. The Comish (sic) - November 21, 2006

All my best, RG. Already rolling on the prayers.

10. Elzbth - November 21, 2006

My thoughts and prayers are with you, RG.

11. wiserbud - November 21, 2006

all my prayers to you and your family, geez.

12. sandy burger - November 21, 2006

Oh, Jesus, that’s awful. You and they are in my prayers, too.

13. Retired Geezer - November 21, 2006

Here’s what we know (think):

They were searching for a missing woman.
They hit some unmarked power lines.
They may or may not have gone down in water.
My son has a compound fracture of his leg, bruised kidney, possible concussion and other unknown injuries.
Sadly, the Officer is not in such good shape.

It’s all rumor, we don’t know anything for sure.

18. HayZeus - November 21, 2006

Holy cow dude! Our prayers are with him and your family!

19. geoff - November 21, 2006

The kids and I have started praying for Brian, Kevin and you two. Please know that our hearts and thoughts are with you. Don’t feel obligated to keep us up to date - you’ve got enough to do.

But in case you find yourself at loose ends, I’ll be staying close to IB all night.

20. Pupster - November 21, 2006

My family and I will keep Brian and Kevin in our prayers, RG.

21. Retired Geezer - November 21, 2006

Mrs. G just got off the phone with Flyin’ Brian.
He sounded really old cause he is drugged up with pain meds.
He has a compound fracture of his leg, broken nose and multiple cuts.
He got choked up when he told us that if it wasn’t for the other people on the ground, searching for the woman, they both would have died because they crashed in the river. The other searchers pulled them out.

We’re going to drive to SLC tomorrow.

Brian comes under the heading of Praise but please continue to pray for Kevin Orr.

22. Michael - November 21, 2006

Great news, RG, and we’ll continue to remember Kevin.

23. geoff - November 21, 2006

That’s great to hear.

24. Retired Geezer - November 21, 2006

News Link.
Let’s all keep praying for Kevin Orr.

25. Russ from Winterset - November 21, 2006

Wow. I’m glad to hear that Brian’s still kicking. I’ll keep Kevin in our prayers too, RG.

26. genghis - November 21, 2006

RG,

Sounds like it’s been a tough day. And not over yet. But it is Thanksgiving, and we’re all thankful he’s going to be with you for many more. I can only assume you’ve brought him up correctly and he’ll be cracking jokes about how to get stuffing through the IV tube (hint: thin with turkey gravy). Also, broken noses lend character.

Compound fracture of the leg, though….that’ll be tough.

Still thinking of Kevin Orr too. Any word on the missing woman?

When you say you’re shipping the feral cat to Wickedpinto, is the advice to wear gloves for him or the cat?

27. lauraw - November 21, 2006

Our hopes and thoughts are with your son and Mr. Orr.

28. Feisty - November 22, 2006

I’m glad to hear that Brian’s still kicking.

Bad choice of words there with the compound fracture of the leg and all.

Your son didnt’ know anything about Kevin Orr? The video made it sound rather ominous.

29. PattyAnn - November 22, 2006

Ours have been added also.

I will also be praying for Kevin and the missing girl and family members of both. Thank God we have people like Brian and Mr. Orr to help us when we need help. They are heroes in my eyes. Lastly I’m praying for your safe trip over and back. Please let me know if you guys need anything on the home front while you are away. Hugs - LD

82. Retired Geezer - November 22, 2006

I just got this email from one of Brian’s Flight Instructors.
He gave me permission to post it.

Dear Pat -

My hands are shaking as I type this to you. I told Bob Spencer immediately, and he is really shook up.

Words cannot express my sadness, frustration, anger and all the rest of the emotions that overcame me as I read the information on your website this morning. Of all the pilots we’ve ever known here at Western, Brian is at the top of our list for so many reasons. The top! He has done things in the helicopter business that others just dream about.

And the credit goes to you and his mom, of course, for the way you raised him and gave him the opportunity to grow as he wished. You two could not have done a finer job of parenting Brian.

I am in awe of his skills as a helicopter pilot. He’s the poster child for the type of person and pilot we all wish for. A personality that can’t be beat, and flying skills second to none.

Wires are, and always have been, our nemises. And unmarked wires over rivers are the worst of all. Fly helicopters long enough and you’ll always have some “wire” stories to tell. Bob and I have been lucky so far. I’ve almost hit wires several times in my career.

My wife, Pat, and I will pray for Brian and Kevin’s rapid recovery. And I mean pray! I’m hoping I wake up in a few minutes and find that this is all a bad dream.

Pat, please let Brian know that he will constantly be on our minds as the days pass and he and Kevin recover from their injuries. Brian was due to come to Western Helicopters for some refresher training this month, but he recently cancelled that, moving the date to sometime in December or January. We will miss him, of course, but we are already looking forward to flying with him again soon. He certainly found a wonderful job with Pete Martin Drilling, and I know he will be missed until he returns to work for them.

Thank you, Pat, for keeping us in the loop.

Sincerely -

Pete Gillies

84. masterdvrsgirl - November 22, 2006

you got it! I’ll be praying for them both tonight, and add them to my prayer group list at church on Sunday.

85. kevlarchick - November 22, 2006

For those of you who didn’t see Geezer’s link, Kevin has died from his injuries. May he rest in peace.

86. Marshall - November 22, 2006

Flyin Brian I am praying for you Kevin and your families, We all hope for a speedy recovery, I will be in contact with you shortly.
CHOPDOC Calstar 1

87. raincoaster - November 22, 2006

The prayers must have helped, because a crash like that could have been so much worse. I hope that Kevin wasn’t in pain when he died; for a man of action, surely it is better to die in the act of helping others than in any other way, although surely it doesn’t minimize the loss to those he leaves behind. I honour his memory, and my prayers are with you and Brian and for the missing woman as well.

I hope that at the very least this will give the power companies incentive to mark their wires; it’s unconscionably dangerous to leave them unmarked.

88. yhurg - November 22, 2006

A moment of silence for Kevin and his loved ones. May this heroic loss only bring his family closer together. May God bless Brian with strength and courage in his recovery. My regards.

89. thehendricksreport - November 22, 2006

Wow…I don’t know what to say. I guess as a “blogger” we all try to share our world with everyone, the good and the bad. But sometimes as we write, we are in another place. This has brought it home for me. So many lives and people we talk to and touch…even if we don’t realize it at times.

My prayers are with all of you as you begin to cope with this tragedy. Brian stay strong and look to God in the difficult times ahead. He is always there.

My heart and prayers are with you tonight.

90. Retired Geezer - November 22, 2006

Thanks again, everybody.
We visited Brian in the hospital. He looks like he was in a fight with Mike Tyson except he still has his ear.
He has a broken leg, broken nose, broken eye socket, fractured vertibrae and other stuff.
He was greatly encouraged by the calls he received from his friends and former work partners.
He’s in room 606 at the University of Utah Medical Center.
I don’t have the number right now but he would love to hear from his friends.

91. wiserbud - November 23, 2006

I posted this at AoS, but I wanted to cross post it here.

There is a special place in heaven for those that give their lives in the act of protecting or helping others. Kevin Orr has earned that place. His death diminishes us all, but we are extremely blessed to have had a man like him on this Earth.

Brian has also earned his place, but, thankfully, has been allowed to stay with us for a while longer. RG, you should take great pride in having raised a man like your son. His bravery and selfless commitment speaks volumes about his upbringing. Thank you for giving the world a man like Brian.

92. lauraw - November 23, 2006

It is hard to see a loved one in a bad physical way like that.

Geezer clan hang tough.
As I write, it is 23 minutes into Thanksgiving morning. Let us give thanks for family today.

93. Mrs. Peel - November 23, 2006

I’m glad Brian is doing well. My prayers go out to him, and the Geezers, and to Kevin’s family.

94. PattyAnn - November 23, 2006

Checking back in; have been thinking about both gentlemen all day. I’m glad Flyin Brian wasn’t injured worse than he is. My heart goes out to Kevin’s family.
Thank you for the many updates, RG.

95. Retired Geezer - November 23, 2006

it is 23 minutes into Thanksgiving morning. Let us give thanks for family today

Amen, Sister.
Brian kept saying “I can’t believe I’m alive”.
Actually he kept whispering it, cause he doesn’t have the energy to speak just yet.

The nurses call the room he is in, the Lucky Room because the guy in the next bed just had his leg cut off by a train. He’s a RR worker that slipped but only lost his leg and not his life.
They are both lucky.

Here’s two Miracles coincidences:
Brian’s best friend lives in Oregon. He just happened to be at the same hospital because his daughter is having a baby. He happened to read the paper about the crash and just walked down the hall into Brian’s room.

The helicopter hit live powerlines which wrapped around the skids when they went down in the water. Nobody got electrocuted, even the rescue workers who pulled them out of the chopper.

I want to apologize if I made anyone uncomfortable by requesting prayer. I fully realize that many of my IB friends aren’t believers. I’m happy just for positive thoughts.

96. geoff - November 23, 2006

I can’t improve upon what WiserBud said. I’m glad he reposted it here. Thanks, WB: what you said.

But I’ve always been curious - shouldn’t it be WeiserBud?

97. Dave in Texas - November 23, 2006

I’m positive my thoughts were happy.

ba dum dum dum.

98. BILLY RUSH - November 23, 2006

PAT & PAM, I WILL DROP TO MY KNEES TONIGHT IN PRAYER FOR MY BROTHER! WE WILL LIFT BRIAN UP AT THE LIGHT BOOTH BIBLE STUDY . I SPEAK FOR ALL HIS FRIENDS AT BALLYS - A SPEEDY RECOVERY & PRAISE GOD FOR BRAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ………… YOU TWO ARE IN MY PRAYERS ALSO ! KEEP ME IN TOUCH BRO. LOVE BILLY

99. Retired Geezer - November 23, 2006

We will lift Brian up at the lightbooth Bible study.

Billy works backstage at Bally’s Las Vegas. He’s a strong Christian and one of the founders of the Bible Study that we had in my Light Booth. I didn’t realize it was still going on. Stagehands, Showgirls and Dancers all attended. Brian used to work backstage before he got his first helicopter job, all the old stagehands remember him.

My daughter was married in the Lightbooth, with a couple of dancers as witnesses. True story.

100. Michael - November 23, 2006

“Prayers Requested” is now appearing on the WordPress home page on the “Hot Posts Today” list.

101. daveintexas - November 23, 2006

Did it get “growing blogs” and “top blogs” too? I assume they’re all related.

We have a lot to be thankful for today, and that encourages me to keep praying for the family of Kevin Orr and the missing woman they were searching for.

102. Michael - November 23, 2006

We’re always on the list of the Top 100 English blogs, but I just checked and we’ve shot up to No. 11. With our current traffic volumes, I’m guessing it’s pretty hard for us to get noticed as a “growing blog” any more.

I’m hoping a little good will come from Geezer’s post if it helps some of the thousands who have read it to be thankful for their loved one’s today.

103. Retired Geezer - November 23, 2006

Yeah, some good has already come of it. I just printed out all the comments to take to the hospital to show Brian.

Skinbad just called to see how things are doing.

I’m kind of amazed at all the people who took the time to comment and even Link the post. I’ve never seen Ace, Wuzzadem or Dave @ GR do that.

I’m humbled.
Don’t take your happiness for granted.
Always tell you loved ones you love them when saying goodbye.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Hey Brian,
Holy cow! I don’t even know what to say, except get better quick! I’m so proud of you and all you’ve accomplished….and so sorry that you’re facing this difficult time. You just hang in there and get better. Drop me a line when you’re feeling up to it. I’m keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
Take care of you. All the best from everyone in Vegas!
Love,

111. Karen Borgstrom(Wisconsin) - November 25, 2006

Rachel’s mom here…Brian delivered flowers to my school in Las Vegas for someone else; but, being Brian, he came to my room just to say “hello!” Rachel’s continued contact with Brian has allowed me to follow his flying career and despite not being in touch personally, I have felt pride in his fantastic accomplishments. My thoughts are with you more often than you may realize…even right this minute.

112. Charles O'Neal - November 26, 2006

Hello all,
I just received an email about one of my best friends, Flyin’ Brian. Brian, Mark Davies and myself lived together in a company trailer house for many months while working for American Aviation in Lafayette, LA. I also flew the fixed wing airplane while Brian did the live traffick reports over a local radio station. I remember once, much to my surprise while doing a report, that Brian blurted out, “Don’t go down Ambassador Caffery, it’s backed up like a bar room toilet!” I’m not sure the radio station appreciated his very accurate account of the situation.

I have flown many hours with Brian and have the utmost respect for his flying abilities. I love him as my own brother. I have never known anyone that after meeting Brian, did not come away from the meeting with a smile on their face. I can still see him doing hand stands in the lobby of American… God speed, brother! I am praying for you.

113. Anonymous - November 26, 2006

I’ve sent an e-mail to Brian’s e-mail address, Pat. Please see that he gets to read it, will you?

How about an update on his condition?

Brian, I hope you can feel the love and encouragement radiating your way from Southern California!

Pete

Update: Yippee! Brian is going to be released from the hospital today.
He’s going to spend the night at a hotel in SLC then fly out to Reno tomorrow.
He might need help getting up his driveway, I think it snowed at his house.

He has to use a walker to get around.

117. Debbie Pardee - November 27, 2006

Brian:
We are so relieved you are doing OK, and that you are going home. As you heal, and are up to it, please keep in touch. Thanks to your Dad for keeping us so well informed.

119. Jolene - November 28, 2006

Brian,
This is Jolene - I used to work at Allstate - I just want you to know who is talking to you. :) You really have always been my favorite client. I just found out from Liz what happened - when she started telling me, my heart just stopped. I was told that you are going to be ok - and on your way home. It looks like you might already be home - that is great news!! I just wanted to send my best wishes to you and your family. I saw a picture of your cute little mom - I bet she is so relieved! If there is anything that I or Liz can do for you - please let us know. It’s such a relief to know that you are going to be ok. Get well soon.

Site Admin, I’ve copied Jolene’s phone, could you erase it so Wickedpinto stalkers won’t bother her?

Flyin’ Brian,

Randy called, I just flew a 24hr round trip flight back into Honolulu from Sydney. I was shocked to hear what happened. Laura and I are praying for you for a quick recovery and praying for officer Orr’s family. Brian, I remember both of us flying out of helicopter services working on our helicopter certificates. We had some great times and good memories, and you will always be one of the finest pilots I have known and flown with. Rotorheads rule and so do B-767s

Brian,
I heard the news from Leisa Ann today and called CALSTAR to get some more information. I am thankful to hear that you are going home and I wish you a speedy recovery. People still ask me if I miss flying and I tell them it is not the flying I miss …I miss the people I used to fly with. Thanks for taking care of me when we worked together and please get well. You and your family are in our prayers.

Hey Brian and Stephanie:

We thank God that you are going to be OK. I know you will have a long haul here but you know you can call Harry or me anytime for a chat. We will get up to see you as soon as we can.

We’re on the road tomorrow to visit Flyin’ Brian.
His 3 doctors (foot, back, eye) all said he should make a complete recovery.
He just got a removable cast for his leg so he will be able to take a shower.

Thanks everybody.
