. . . about the War on Terror.

Thanks to Hot Air, where Allah’s jaundiced take on the video has incited a controversy in the comment thread.

1. Bart - July 23, 2007

I used to think allah was a decent, funny bloke.

Now I think allah is just a turd.

2. sandy burger - July 23, 2007

Where’s the love? I think Allahpundit rocks, even when he’s wrong.

3. mikeelliott1 - July 23, 2007

Uncanny likeness to George C. Scott’s voice and delivery nonetheless…

4. Dave in Texas - July 23, 2007

I can’t be hatin on Allah. Haven’t seen the vid yet so no big, but his comments dint bother me none.

5. John - July 23, 2007

Can we get the General to go bitch-slap a few Senators?

6. Slublog - July 24, 2007

I don’t get the outrage over Allahpundit’s comments – he said he didn’t like the video because it doesn’t reflect the realities of today’s battlefield. Somehow, people took that to mean he hates the military and its history.

Seems to me people are misreading his comments.

7. BrewFan - July 24, 2007

Slu, I think the first sentence: “I hate crap like this but people on our side love it so here you go.” was the trigger. It sounds condescending at best, elitist at worst. Secondly, I think he misinterpreted the intent of the video. I don’t think the video was meant to draw parallels between WWII and the war on terror. I think the idea was to illustrate how off-base the left is on this issue from the perspective of a personality renowned for a no-BS approach to matters.

8. Slublog - July 24, 2007

I think that can explain some of the outrage, but there were a few really off-base types – dustoffmom being the most outrageously outraged of them all.

Hot Air is a good site and the discussions can be fun, but a lot of people who comment there have their Outrage-O-Meters permanently set to thermonuclear.

9. PattyAnn - July 24, 2007

“Outrage-O-Meters permanently set to thermonuclear.”
I comment there infrequently. I also try to not comment when EricPW whatever his stupid handle is comments. He is one stupid little heifer.
Oh, wrong thread.

10. Dave in Texas - July 24, 2007

They do seem to have an awfully low threshold of offensesensitivity.

One of the reasons I don’t comment there much anymore… I really don’t find the comments all that entertaining. Such seriousness.

Entertain me, dammit!

11. eddiebear - July 24, 2007

Is it just me, or has Allah taken this whole “pessimistic conservative” thing just a bit too far?

12. Slublog - July 24, 2007

As a pessimistic conservative myself…I’M OUTRAGED!

I DEMAND THAT YOU APOLOGIZE FOR YOUR INTEMPERATE AND CRUEL REMARKS!!

13. eddiebear - July 24, 2007

^To wit, too many conservative pundits are perpetually pessimistic. Yet he outdoes Malkin or Powerline in that vein.

14. eddiebear - July 24, 2007

slu:
?

15. Slublog - July 24, 2007

Kidding.

16. eddiebear - July 24, 2007

Oh. Ok.

All kidding aside, I get down in the dumps about things once in a while, but pessimism doesn’t mesh well with the Reagan Optimism that I grew up with.

17. BrewFan - July 24, 2007

I’m not sure I’d peg Allahpundit as a conservative. He certainly sides with conservatives on foreign policy issues but I think of him more as a ‘middle-of-the-roader-leaning-liberal’ when it comes to domestic policy. IIRC, he once described himself as a ‘9/11′ republican.

18. eddiebear - July 24, 2007

^fair enough. But he calls Malkin “the boss”.

19. eddiebear - July 24, 2007

I agree with DiT and Patty that sometimes our side needs to lower the outragemeter lower than the 3 Mile Island level

20. BrewFan - July 24, 2007

But he calls Malkin “the boss”.

I believe he means that literally. Does he not work for her?

21. Dave in Texas - July 24, 2007

FWIW, I didn’t particularly care for the vid, but only because I didn’t think it was all that well produced. No particular axe to grind.

22. BrewFan - July 24, 2007

I agree with you Dave. I only watched the first minute or so. Allahpundit would have been better off just ignoring it instead of using it as an opportunity to insult half of his readership.

23. eddiebear - July 24, 2007

Brew:

That’s what I meant. I guess I didn’t spell it out.

24. eddiebear - July 24, 2007

22:
That’s one of the reasons I no longer go to polipundit.

25. sandy burger - July 24, 2007

If I had Allahpundit’s commenters, I’d insult half my readership, too. Hotair seems to have picked up the dregs of the perpetually outraged LGF crowd with a healthy sprinkling of Ron Paul types for good measure.

26. eddiebear - July 24, 2007

25:

And what galls me is that they seem to be part of that segment that always wants to lose and is never happy with any candidate we put forth.

27. Michael - July 24, 2007

I recently noticed that Hot Air has closed registration of new commenters; so I don’t even have the ability to comment there if I wanted to. What’s up with that?

Are they trying to keep Bart out?

28. Dave in Texas - July 24, 2007

I suspect, but I do not know, that HA was trying to freshen up the commenting section by adding some newbies.

If so, I’d say it doesn’t seem to have accomplished the desired result.

29. Cuffy Meigs - July 24, 2007

I recently got in there by pleading directly to Allah. Told him I’d keep it clean and the vitriol at about defcon 4. I think he’s getting sick of his pegged-at-11 commenters and took a swipe for the hell of it.

30. Michael - July 24, 2007

They’re not adding newbies, Dave. Quite the opposite — registration is closed until further notice. It’s like they thought they had too many commenters or something.

31. Dave in Texas - July 24, 2007

I should elaborate.

Until about 6 weeks ago, comments had been closed since the initial batch they collected around startup.

Then they opened em up again, and collected new ones for about a month.

Then they closed them again.

32. Bart - July 24, 2007

No no no.

I neither visit nor comment at Hot Air. But I think I know the kind of malcontents that you ninnies are crying about.

Look, there are people in the Republican party who have taken compromise right off of the table. Compromises suck.

Compromise + doing the right thing = doing the wrong thing.

Get it?

Allah is a turd who will gladly compromise on lots of issues (most of which he does not care about, such as moral issues that are central to our great American culture and what separate us from the rest of the awful world) just to get his way on the Big 3: taxes, security, and civil liberties. In that order, too.

Sorry, but some of us want more for our country than fiscal responsibility and security. I don’t know where I’m going with this, so I’ll stop now.

One last word: I’m right and if you disagree with me, you’re wrong.

Thank you,

Bart

33. eddiebear - July 24, 2007

^but I always believed Allah was a big Malkinite when it came to immigration.

34. Dave in Texas - July 24, 2007

I agree you don’t know where you’re going with this.

35. Slublog - July 24, 2007

Without Allah, where would we go for stories like this?

36. Dave in Texas - July 24, 2007

their lovemaking is typically accompanied by very loud puffing and snorting, usually by the female as she tries to ward off the male.

So THAT’S what that is.

Good to know.

37. wiserbud - July 24, 2007

their lovemaking is typically accompanied by very loud puffing and snorting, usually by the female as she tries to ward off the male.

Heh. I call this “married.”

38. John Edwards - July 24, 2007

their lovemaking is typically accompanied by very loud puffing and snorting, usually by the female as she tries to ward off the male.

That almost like it is in our house, except the opposite.

Vote Edwards ‘08!

39. Lady Michael - July 24, 2007

So if it was so loud — the question is — was it really lovemaking? Or was it avoiding…?

So how do you guys respond to puffing and snorting? I wanna know!!!

40. John Edwards - July 24, 2007

I ask them to stop and go back to cleaning the pool.

41. Dave in Texas - July 24, 2007

Well, up till now I didn’t really know it was a “wave off”. So I just sorta got into it and snorted and puffed right back, and carried on.

42. anonymous - July 24, 2007

Well, it kind of lets me know that at least she’s awake……

43. Bart - July 24, 2007

Check out the dance moves.

44. compos mentis - July 24, 2007

Methinks Mrs. Hedgehog doth protest too muchly! She’s just being coy.

This is most likely NOT the case for Mrs. in Texas.

45. Elaine Benes - July 24, 2007

Rick Astley totally stole my moves.

46. Sobek - July 24, 2007

He reminds me of David Caruso.

47. Bart - July 24, 2007

If Conan O’Brien and David Caruso had a baby…

48. Michael - July 24, 2007

I don’t know where I’m going with this, so I’ll stop now.

One last word: I’m right and if you disagree with me, you’re wrong.

Thank you,

Bart

I nominate this entry for the IB Commenters Hall of Fame™.

Man, Bart, that was just brilliant. I tip my hat to you, sir.

49. geoff - July 24, 2007

So how do you guys respond to puffing and snorting? I wanna know!!!

It’s an aphrodisiac, of course. Like every other behavior or substance on the planet.

Re Allah – I can’t imagine what the outrage was about. All he was saying is that this sort of piece doesn’t really advance the debate in any meaningful or constructive way – it’s like an Ann Coulter column.

50. Bart - July 24, 2007

geoff, why do have to bash Ann Coulter? :(

What is there to legitimately debate with these people?

Should we debate whether the Palestinians are wrong to blow up joos?

Should we debate the fallacious claims of global warming?

There is no need for such debates. Ann Coulter treats the opposition exactly how they deserve to be treated — with contempt and ridicule.

Is fallacious a word?

51. geoff - July 24, 2007

There is no need for such debates. Ann Coulter treats the opposition exactly how they deserve to be treated — with contempt and ridicule.

I strongly disagree. The need to get down to the root causes of disagreements has never been more dire. And while the opposition may deserve contempt and ridicule, it only diminishes our cause when we oblige them.

52. BrewFan - July 24, 2007

All he was saying is that this sort of piece doesn’t really advance the debate in any meaningful or constructive way

geoff,

If he would have put it that way there probably wouldn’t have been much of a fuss. The way he chose to make his point seems to have driven the tone of the comments.

53. daveintexas - July 24, 2007

Ann Coulter is a dorkhead.

54. BrewFan - July 24, 2007

Here’s what I like about Ann Coulter:

1. She is smart
2. She is right

Here’s what I don’t like about Ann Coulter

1. She hasn’t yet realized she’d be more effective if she toned down her act a bit.
2. She’s too skinny to kick Elizabeth Edwards ass.

All in all, the conservative movement is still better off with her than without her. At least she isn’t an appeaser like Peggy Noonan.

55. daveintexas - July 24, 2007

Setting back the cause of conservatism for showmanship 50 years.

That’s right, I said showMANship.

56. BrewFan - July 24, 2007

I think you have a crush on her. She likes guns you know.

57. Lady Michael - July 24, 2007

ShowMANship??!!

Ouch!

Eat my thong!

Is that toned down enough?

58. Lady Michael - July 24, 2007

I’ll be back for more…

Taking the three-legged wonder for an evening walk…

59. BrewFan - July 24, 2007

Mrs. BrewFan has the same pet nickname for me…

60. Lady Michael - July 24, 2007

Yes – but does she take you for walks?

61. daveintexas - July 24, 2007

Only in Texas could “walkin the dog” mean something besides walking the dog.

62. sandy burger - July 24, 2007

Only in Texas could “walkin the dog” mean something besides walking the dog.

When was the last time you “walked the dog”?

A. It’s been a while, man…
B. Hell, I take the dog jogging!
C. With or without a leash?
D. I’m a cat lady; thanks for rubbing it in.

63. Lady Michael - July 24, 2007

Texans have great metaphors about dogs!

My favorite is “That dog don’t hunt!”

64. Michael - July 24, 2007

I love Sandy’s multiple-choice comments. I’ve never seen one that failed to make me giggle.

65. Michael - July 24, 2007

“Sandy” was my mother’s nickname.

66. Michael - July 24, 2007

I really really like Sandy’s multiple-choice comments. Sandy is so cool.

67. Michael - July 24, 2007

*Michael looks in mirror*

Man, one paraffin bath treatment and I’ll be over the edge.

68. Wickedpinto - July 25, 2007

Taking the three-legged wonder for an evening walk…

Ummmmmmmm

well. . . ..

Ummmmmmmm

69. sandy burger - July 25, 2007

You’re really trying hard to piss off Bart right now, aren’t you?

70. Wickedpinto - July 25, 2007

Got nothi’n

71. Michael - July 25, 2007

Well, Sandy, that just shows what a wonderful, perceptive hunk of man you are.

I’m always trying to piss off Bart.

72. Bart has a short attention span - July 25, 2007

Ain’t gonna work.

Unless you say mean things about Ann.

73. Michael - July 25, 2007

Ann Coulter uses paraffin baths, because she has gnarled and wrinkly hands, in case you haven’t noticed.

(It’s hard to get much meaner than that.)

74. Michael - July 25, 2007

I mean, let’s get real. If you look at her hands, she looks like a troll, compared to really nice hands.

75. lauraw - July 25, 2007

Allah seems like a good guy, or at least I think of him that way, but he’s a down-in-the-mouth, the way he expresses himself online.

Whether it’s women and relationships, or war, or elections, the guy projects himself as a glass-half-empty type of fellow.

I poop on him for his downer/negativity, but we also need guys like that from time to time. Keep some folks sharp. Keep them from running off cliffs. He goes overboard sometimes. But his critics go overboard seizing on every throwaway comment, too, and ascribing bad motives to him.

Oh, and I wish Ann Coulter would return to her original style, which was more logical and substantive and less gratuitously insane.

76. Bart - July 25, 2007

Allah is Ace on barbituates. \

Or Ace is Allah on Xanax.

You pick.

77. eddiebear - July 25, 2007

laura:

you just nailed how I feel about Allah. I know I ragged on him earlier, but I just at times feel a guy who is never happy or upbeat is tough to be around. Heck, even George Will (who has made a fortune being a morose and pessimistic individual) can be upbeat once in a while.

But my biggest beef with the Allahs and Malkins of the world is I want to shake them at times and scream, “What the ^&(*(* do you want?!? Nobody’s perfect!!”

78. Dave in Texas - July 25, 2007

and ascribing bad motives to him

Which is a choice people make that I find particularly irritating. Mindreaders all.

79. Slublog - July 25, 2007

Which is a choice people make that I find particularly irritating. Mindreaders all.

I can read your mind…and you should be ashamed of yourself.

80. daveintexas - July 25, 2007

Oh, you took a big risk with THAT one. I should be ashamed of myself every 3.5 minutes.

81. BrewFan - July 25, 2007

I should be ashamed of myself every 3.5 minutes.

Slacker.

82. compos mentis - July 25, 2007

Slacker.

Cut him some slack Brew. It’s a well-known, documented fact that parrafin treatments reduce testosterone levels by at least 50%.

83. compos mentis - July 25, 2007

It’s also a documented fact that I cannot f-ing spell paraffin : )

84. geoff - July 25, 2007

I poop on him for his downer/negativity…

That explains the abundance of rose petals.
