So maybe engineers aren’t the preferred life form when wasting the time of honest merchants who should be providing humorous blog content to their fake internet friends. “Sooo, if you gave me a materials list and showed me how to pack, oh, for instance, some flywheel shaft couplings, I could probably work this out on my own? Could you write that down for me? Please don’t touch my mechanical pencil.”

HOWEVER. They can be very useful creatures and should receive huzzahs when deserved. This is a nice story. Engineering students and faculty went to Africa and completed a project resulting in:

  • School playground equipment for African children
  • Rechargeable lights for classroom and homework use
  • Plans and methods allowing locals to use available materials to reproduce the results at other schools

Empower Playgrounds sponsored the project. Huzzah for them as well.

Yah, that is cool. There’s another organization out there doing the same thing for water pumping, so the villagers will have plenty of fresh water on hand.
