Our house still is in the Stone Ages with DirecTV, with one of the more basic packages around. One of the channels we do not get, and I refuse to pay for, is the one that shows nothing but horse races from around the country.

Well, the Little One spent some time over at my parents’ place a few nights ago, and celebrated the fact that they have the Mega Wallet Raper HD Package, which includes her newest favorite channel to watch with Grandpa. Upon returning home to my cave, this conversation ensued when Little One asked to watch the channel in question:

Where To Find Bakon Vodka April 20, 2009

Yes, actual bacon-flavored vodka, made with Idaho potatoes and BACON.

Ace and Hot Air have both picked up on this, but I’m concerned about the limited distribution.  Here’s where you can buy it currently:

Huh, I’m trying to remember if I know anyone up there.

Hey Geezer, have I ever mentioned that I Can Give You What You Want is, in my opinion, an American pop classic?  It was really cool that you posted that song.

Are we done mocking the greatest baseball player ever yet? You mean we weren’t talking about Robin Yount? Oh. Well then, on to more serious matters.

Our President asked his cabinet today to tighten their belts and get serious about showing us taxpayers some fiscal responsibility. So, how big a sacrifice did he ask them to make?

Cut a latte or two out of your annual budget and you’ve just done as much belt-tightening as President Barack Obama asked of his Cabinet on Monday.

The thrifty measures Obama ordered for federal agencies are the equivalent of asking a family that spends $60,000 in a year to save $6.

Nice. Are you sure that’s all?

For all the trumpeting, the effort raised questions about why Obama set the bar so low, considering that $100 million amounts to:

–Less than one-quarter of the budget increase that Congress awarded to itself.

–4 percent of the military aid the United States sends to Israel.

–Less than half the cost of one F-22 fighter plane.

–7 percent of the federal subsidy for the money-losing Amtrak passenger rail system.

–1/10,000th of the government’s operating budgets for Cabinet agencies, excluding the Iraq and Afghan wars and the stimulus bill.

You have got to be kiddin’ me. Read it all!

One of the highlights every year in St. Louis for Opening Day is the parade of the players and the introduction of the living Hall of Famers. Sadly, the greatest Cardinal of them all, Stan Musial, is pushing 90, and has missed several recent events due to failing health. But he was at this year’s Opening Day, even though the weather was terrible, and as many people can sense, the opportunities to see him are diminishing by the day.

To me, this photo, courtesy of the St. Louis Post-Disptach’s Chris Lee, of Albert Pujols adjusting Mr. Musial’s collar is one of the most touching sports-related photos I have seen in a while. Yes, I know athletes are spoiled, self-centered, and difficult to deal with. But seeing one of the best players in the game today helping out one of the best players ever, is impressive.

My boss and I had to work in Pittsburgh this weekend, but we found time Saturday afternoon to watch the Pirates stomp the Braves at PNC Park. He was being really cagey about the the ticket prices, and I understood why when we finally got to our seats.

Row B

Behind home plate, first base side, second row back. Awesome.

PNC Park is a great place to see a ballgame, even though there were empty seats here and there, the crowd was highly engaged and the game was mighty fun to watch. We had vendors all around us and the weather was perfect. A really great day.

I think that deep down, at some primordial, instinctive level, we all know how it’s going to end.

It’s going to be us against the clowns.

Which side will you be on?

How 'bout we start with the MEAT?

How 'bout we start with the MEAT?

MEAT!!    That’s how we start. *mouth waters*

Yesterday afternoon, I took receipt of these lovely items, now in the freezer awaiting all of you Innocent Bystander Party Pals.  WE have Geoff and Mrs. Geoff to thank for their generous contribution to our next event.

The IB-Party Check list?

  • Dates & Times
  • Theme “Meet for Meat” is an idea, but y’all might do better, so brainstorm on it please.
  • Event Activities
  • Suggestions for Side Trips
  • The Other Food Groups
  • Lodging Needs

Some Ideas for…

Dates & Times: Should be a weekend. Folks can come in as early as Thursday night or Friday. Main PARTY event will be on Saturday afternoon into evening. Stay through Sunday and into Monday, if that works well for transportation needs. Everyone should try to make Saturday evening.   A window of warmer weather in Dallas after the next Tea Parties scheduled for July 4th and maybe before school starts (if school schedules would prevent attendance) might be good.  We have the pool to cool down, and covered patio gives us plenty of space to stay dry in case of rain and cooler in the shade if we have hot sunny weather.

Event Activities: IB-Shoot Out.  Clam-shell Swimsuit Competition. Ugly Feet Contest. Bandit and His Buddies Dog Show. Julio the Pool Boy Dance Competition.  Iron Chef Dallas – Ingredient – Bacon!!! Karaoke. OR just sitting around being lazy, blowing smoke-rings, which some do quite well.

Side Trips, Food Groups, Lodging to be covered later.

This is OUR party.  Let’s get planning.

New commenter Marylu says in the thread for the post below:

I think we should all say a prayer for President “O”.   Something must open his eyes to such a great number of people that just want their country back.

But, I’m not really talking about the dream of Obama admitting he’s a fraud, an empty suit, and hoping that he will resigni so that he can resume his career as a community organizer, a job that he can do well.

No, I’m talking about the current No. 1 viral video, which has popped up in just the last couple of days.

Well, on the other hand, the video kinda proves that anything is possible, so maybe Marylu is not crazy.

This video is amazing, and touching — watch how the expressions on the faces in the audience abruptly change when she starts singing.

See, anything is possible.

Back home and pumped from the experience.  Made several slogan posters, but it was Michael’s idea that got the most laughs. No kidding!  Folks simply loved it.  AND of the thousands of posters, there was no other like it.  Added my artwork and ideas. Enjoyed walking around showing it off  ’cause people would nudge family members and friends to make sure they got a look at it.  I’ll bet over a hundred folks asked and then took a picture of me with it this poster….

Made some friends and heard great stuff from the speakers, but above all I experienced what it means to hear the truth and sense some real hope again.  WE ARE NOT ALONE and WE ARE NOT CRAZY.   Next Tea Party – July 4th!

Muchas gracias to neighbor Kent for being my Buddy all evening. He’d fit right in at IB.

Note: No live Bluebonnets were injured, violated, or abused in the decorating of the cowboy hat.

These gals got a lot of cheers from the crowd.
