Digging Trees in the Spud State November 14, 2009

Posted by Retired Geezer in Crime, Man Laws.
trackback

Dang, I haven’t posted in months yet Michael pressured me.

Eddiebear posted a video of a hot girl in a hot chair.

I can’t top that so I’ll go with the bucolic rural shtick.

I’m positive that Dave in Texas could hurt himself and others with this machine.

That’s my buddy, Big Ron. He’s 7′ tall. His Tree Spade is pretty scary.

The stupid horses killed a tree at Camp Geezer so he came over to dig it up.

Hope y’all like the music mashup by DJ Earworm.
How many groups can you pick out of this song?

2. Michael - November 14, 2009

The music is entirely Steely Dan’s “Do It Again” with samples layered on top like “into the future” (Steve Miller Band) and “she’s a lady” (originally, Tom Jones, but that’s not his voice) and “Mama” (Queen, I think).

3. geoff - November 14, 2009

Isn’t that Bowie/Metheny with This is Not America at the outset?

4. GrumpyUnk - November 14, 2009

I love watching shit like that work. Bigger and louder the better. Just a big kid I guess.

I heard the Steely Dan riff and sorta tuned out the music from there. I got stuck on the mechanical aspect of watching that thing work.

5. lauraw - November 14, 2009

Nifty machine.

6. Pupster - November 14, 2009

Your horses are going to lose their self respect RG. You should have let them finish the job.

7. Retired Geezer - November 14, 2009

Michael, Geoff and Grumpy got most of them:

* Under the Influence of Giants – Mama’s Room
* Steely Dan – Do it Again
* Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody
* David Bowie & the Pat Metheny Group – This is not America
* Steve Miller Band – Fly Like an Eagle
* Common – Go

I don’t like all his mashups but he does some interesting videos also at DJEarworm.com

8. skinbad - November 14, 2009

His Tree Spade is pretty scary.

That’s what she said.

9. Dave in Texas - November 14, 2009

This is the best post ever.

10. Michael - November 14, 2009

Good heavens, Wisconsin slaughtered Michigan. That just ain’t right. Looks like another season with Michigan not even bowl eligible, with two ranked teams (Ohio State and Iowa) left on the schedule.

11. Dave in Texas - November 14, 2009

UT eased up on Baylor in the second half. They have really hit their stride this year. A&M will be amped but it won’t matter.

As much as I love what TCU is doing this year, I’d hate to see it come down to UT and TCU for 3rd.

12. Russ from Winterset - November 14, 2009

Another appropriate tune for this video:

13. kevl - November 14, 2009

Threadjack alert: if I buy a new 128mb video card, can I just plug it in and play? Do I have to download drivers?

I need a tech butler.

14. Pupster - November 14, 2009

I need a yard butler.

Raise your hand if you are going to Vegas, baby.

15. d3ft punk - November 14, 2009

Re: DJ Earworm

Now I need me an hour of mashups (a la SIXXMIXX). Mashups are like Pringles, you just can’t sit in front of a computer for 2 hours downloading stuff…oh, never mind

Re: Video Cards

Depending on OS, either it will just work (and work even betterer with new drivers), or it won’t work at all. Whatever TFM says that you are supposed to R will tell you what you need to do. The best advice I can give you that may not be in the aforementioned FM is that you should leave the plug in on your computer, then touch something metal on the inside. Static discharging is your friend.

16. Lipstick - November 14, 2009

Kevl, Mr. L says that if the video card is new, it should have the drivers included in it.

17. Lipstick - November 14, 2009

Also, if the video card is old, your computer should already have the drivers you need.

18. Michael - November 14, 2009

Raise your hand if you are going to Vegas, baby.

*sorta raises hand*

Depends on work, but this actually sounds like a good idea.

19. Retired Geezer - November 14, 2009

I’m considering it… heck, if I could drive 700 miles to see Lipstick, Sobek and Enas, there’s no telling how low I’ll stoop.

Just kidding, THEY were the high points of the trip. The low point was Cook E. Jarr. Seriously, he USED to be awesome.

20. Retired Geezer - November 14, 2009

Oh, and BTW, I pure hate Russ for coming up with a better soundtrack than I did.

21. Pupster - November 14, 2009

I just floated Vegas in April past Mrs. Pupster. She didn’t flinch, much.

22. Lipstick - November 14, 2009

One good thing about living in Vegas is that everybody comes to you.

23. Lipstick - November 14, 2009

Pups, loved the clip. Mr. L hasn’t seen that movie, so now it’s in the queue.

24. Dave in Texas - November 14, 2009

Oh hell I’m going. Wouldn’t miss it

25. Pupster - November 14, 2009

The FIVE POOLS ARE HERE?!!?
Love that movie.

Soundtrack is all covers of Elvis tunes.

26. Russ from Winterset - November 14, 2009

Not better, RG. Just different.

27. Russ from Winterset - November 14, 2009

And am I right to assume that “going to Vegas” is shorthand for “going to AceFest 2010″? Depending on the date, I’d love to go. It’ll be hard making time for this during harvest season, but I’m going to make an effort anyway.

28. Michael - November 14, 2009

I’ll probably go just to meet Enas. Have not met him yet, but I like him. Enas strikes me as somebody worth meeting.

29. Michael - November 14, 2009

Oh hell I’m going. Wouldn’t miss it

Dave, there are substantial bodies of water in Vegas, which may look to you like an enchanted Atlantic Ocean. The huge pools which are home to the fountains at the Bellagio, for example.

Stay back. Do not approach the shoreline. Too many people are willing to push you (including me). Protect your 3G iPhone.

30. Michael - November 14, 2009

I’ll also go to Vegas just to show Lipstick that the Black Ice Zippo Lighter she gave me is suitably scuffed up, because I actually use it every day.

That lighter works great in the windy concrete canyons of downtown Dallas, when some shitty little Bic lighter will not work.

31. Mrs. Peel - November 14, 2009

Yeah, we’re not having a great year. UH is, though. They definitely deserve to get in a bowl game. A good one, not the Gallery Furniture one.

I will go to the Vegas meetup if it works with my schedule. We don’t have a date yet.

32. Mrs. Peel - November 14, 2009

a date for the Moron Con, of course I mean

33. Michael - November 14, 2009

Bad day for UH. Still, it is always fun when a small school like that has a great year, gets ranked, and becomes a bowl contender.

That’s why college football is more fun than the pros.

34. Michael - November 14, 2009

^

I mean, college football is more fun unless some cheesehead Calvinist sodomites from Wisconsin are beating Michigan, in which case, it is not fun.

35. Dave in Texas - November 14, 2009

Houston.., hell I’m not done hating those pukes from when we let em in the SWC.

36. geoff - November 14, 2009

Hey, IB is perilously close to 3,000,000 views!

37. Retired Geezer - November 14, 2009

I’ll probably go just to meet Enas.

That’s well worth the trip, right there.
Lipstick and I got to meet him but he had to leave before Sobek arrived.
I met him the next day for lunch.

I’m sure he’d be willing to help push Dave in the Bellagio Fountains.

38. Russ from Winterset - November 14, 2009

Is that place that rents machine guns still in business?

What? You thought I was going to bring a car full of MY OWN weapons to Vegas? Do I look like Hunter S. Thompson? Wait….don’t answer that.

39. Michael - November 14, 2009

Hey, IB is perilously close to 3,000,000 views!

2,000,000 of them showed up to look at Amsterdam hookers and a shark. It’s a very small site.

40. Michael - November 14, 2009

Except for Geoff’s chart. That has made a difference, I think.

41. Michael - November 14, 2009

Today, I spent $29.97 with WordPress to subscribe to 5mb of storage for IB for the next year.

That means, no lunch for me next week.

Geoff’s chart makes that worthwhile.

42. Retired Geezer - November 14, 2009

*Geezer chuckles to himself that part of the storage was for a video about a Frickin’ Tree Spade.

43. Retired Geezer - November 14, 2009

Is that place that rents machine guns still in business?

Yep, that’s the Gun Store on Tropicana.

Tell my buddy Tony (Spaghetti Slim) hello for me.

44. Lipstick - November 14, 2009

Is that place that rents machine guns still in business?

The Gun Store on Tropicana is still in business, as is American Shooters. Both reasonably close to the strip, but both suffering from an ammo shortage.

45. Lipstick - November 14, 2009

Ha, Geezer beat me to it!

46. Retired Geezer - November 14, 2009

I wanna go so I can correct any bad shooting habits Mrs. Peel may have picked up from Dave.

47. kevl - November 15, 2009

I went to the Gun Store with Lips. She showed me the ropes up in there. I don’t recall any Slim Spaghetti tho – he might have seen our intimidating approach and hid in the back.

48. BrewFan - November 15, 2009

Shhhhh! Don’t tell anybody but I have photos of KC and Lipstick at the shootin’ range!

http://tinyurl.com/yfnxy4x

49. Pupster - November 15, 2009

Hahahahaha!

Nailed it Brew, very nice.

50. kevl - November 15, 2009

HAH Brew. That is NOT my belly button.

51. Gomer Pyle - November 15, 2009

That is NOT my belly button.

That ain’t my finger either!!

52. Mrs. Peel - November 15, 2009

argh, I’m so tired of people spouting disproven lies like “no connection b/w Saddam and al-Qaeda.” Maybe Saddam didn’t help fund 9/11 specifically, but he definitely offered safe haven and help with training to al-Qaeda in general.

53. scottw - November 15, 2009

Yep. Salman Pak was actually an amusement park for kids with special needs.

54. Mrs. Peel - November 15, 2009

In other news, I am still furious over what we did to Honduras. When did it suddenly become ok to interfere with other countries’ free and lawful elections? I hate to say these five words, but Ann Coulter has a point: if you want to know what lefties are doing, check out what they’re accusing us of.

I guess it came out all right in the end, but I’m still really mad. That was a completely inappropriate use of our power. Fuckers.

55. Dave in Texas - November 15, 2009

Salman Pak had that neato “hijack an airliner” ride too.

You must be this tall to cut throats.

56. lauraw - November 15, 2009

New sign at Salman Pak:

Random historical factizoid: Oldest Amusement Park in the United States is in CT, not far from my business.

57. lauraw - November 15, 2009

SIGH that futhermuckin’ bam spucket.

58. harrison - November 15, 2009

Random historical factizoid: Oldest Amusement Park in the United States is in CT, not far from my business.

Is that the one with the slip-off-the-rocks-into-the-harbor ride?

59. lauraw - November 15, 2009

*glares at harrison*

60. harrison - November 15, 2009

Wha?

61. Dave in Texas - November 15, 2009

Ha ha haha ahahaha.

Ooooo you can’t fuck with me. Baby will cut ya.

62. geoff - November 15, 2009

O/T

Saw this at Calculated Risk:

“There’s no hard and fast number, but … I have in mind something like $300 Billion, you could do quite a lot that’s actually targeted on jobs.”
Professor Paul Krugman, Nov 12, 2009

Stunning admission that all the original criticisms of the stimulus were on the mark. Even taking only a third of the package (since most of the money went to things like Medicare and unemployment benefits), we should have been able to get more bang for the buck than we did.

And Krugman pretty much tacitly admitted it.

63. BrewFan - November 15, 2009

Anybody know the score of the Packers-Cowboys game? How about the Wisconsin-Michigan game yesterday?

*giggle*

64. doc - November 15, 2009

Bucks are headed to the rose bowl. Tress wants to give the fans all heart attacks, but any day teh OSU wins and meatchicken gets spanked is a good day indeed. I would love to go to Vegas to meet some of the old Ace regulars and as many IBers as attend (if only to prove I’m not spurwing’s retarded second-cousin). Ace’s comments site has become like an online dating and flirting chat room. I don’t get it. Thanks for the post RG.

65. Retired Geezer - November 15, 2009

I’m really going to plan on attending the Vegas Vestal Virgin meetup.

66. Retired Geezer - November 15, 2009

I just put 5 things on Craigslist… 4 of them were Trailers.

Dang, I got a bunch of crap extra equipment here at Camp Geezer.

67. Sobek - November 15, 2009

If Ace does this thing in Vegas after I already moved out, I’ll be unhappy.

68. Mrs. Peel - November 16, 2009

I wish Ace et al. would decide on a date…I want to know if I can make it. I already have plans for most of March, so if he’s thinking spring, I might not be able to.

69. Lipstick - November 16, 2009

Well, if Ace has an idea of hanging by the pool, March is too early. It gets cold here and by March it might be temperate, but it sure isn’t pool weather.

70. lauraw - November 16, 2009

I think they were saying April.

71. Pupster - November 16, 2009

I don’t think I’ll have my bikini body ready by March.

72. daveintexas - November 16, 2009

Sometime in April.

73. Mrs. Peel - November 16, 2009

April will be difficult because I’ll have two classes next semester, but doable…
