Environment of Hate Not Working for You? Try Some Real Calls to Violence!! January 12, 2011

[I was going to put this up at AoSHQ, but decided that they had too much metacoverage of the Giffords assassination attempt. IB, however, had none! So here you go.]

I’ve never been much for appreciating metaphors, similes, allegories and the like. I like things direct and simple. So when people show me these bullseyes, crosshairs, surveyor symbols, or whatever, I just shrug. When somebody says “don’t retreat, reload,” I’m bewildered. It’s too vague – it requires too much reading between the lines.

I need my incitements to violence to be clear and to the point: tell me who it is and what you want done. Direct and simple.

That’s why I recommend liberals 9 times out of 10 for your calls to violence. When Democrats place a newspaper ad that says:

“And then there’s Rumsfeld who said of Iraq, ‘We have our good days and our bad days,’ ” the ad continues. “We should put this S.O.B. up against the wall and say ‘This is one of our bad days,’ and pull the trigger.”

there’s no question about who, what, where, or how. Hell, they even script it for you!! Environment of hate, my ass – these guys give you the instruction manual for murder!

I’m sure you’ve heard this one quite a few times over the past few days:

“That Scott down there that’s running for governor of Florida,” Mr. Kanjorski said. “Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him and shoot him. Put him against the wall and shoot him.

Any questions? Any confusion? Didn’t think so.

Randi Rhodes provided us another roadmap to action:

“Like Fredo, somebody ought to take him out fishing and phuw. ” Rhodes then imitated the sound of a gunshot.

You’ve got to admire her going the extra mile and clarifying what she meant by “phuw.” Yes, she set a standard of excellence and attention to detail that has dwarfed Sarah Palin’s feeble efforts.

In the absence of a well-defined plan, liberals go to their fallback strategy: form a committee. Thus we have ex-SNL performer Rick “I’m Known Only for Sniglets” Hall singing “Let’s get together and kill George Bush” at his comedy appearances. Short on concrete ideas, he delegates responsibility for planning to the audience. And if the plan doesn’t seem to be coming together, they can always just burn some effigies.

But maybe you’re intimidated. “Gee,” you say to yourself, “I dunno if I can handle some of these fancy-schmancy schemes these libs are cooking up.” Well hustle yourself to the practice range and take aim at a George Bush target! Ammo too expensive? Not to worry, ‘cuz you can practice on one of the many “Kill Bush” video games available at a web site near you! Here are a few:

But sometimes you’re in a more passive mood, where you want to get fired up to commit political violence, but you can’t get off the couch. Then just feast your eyes on Bush-killing movies, like Death of a President.

Despite the extensive suite of training tools and a great go-to team of speakers, even liberals occasionally come up short. Falling into despair after 5 heart attacks failed to stop the indomitable Dick Cheney, they’ve been forced to give up when even their most high-tech, fanciful assassination plans failed to bear fruit. Stick with the Cheney effigies, guys.

But even with the occasional (and completely excusable) failure, it’s clear that creating an environment of hate is for amateurs. You need direct, specific, targeted calls for the death of major political figures to be in the liberals’ league. Honestly, I don’t think our side will ever close the gap.

Texas State Capitol Building

Cold dank Monday morning clouds hovered over the Capitol Building in Austin as Texans converged to duke it out in heated debate of words and wills with the newly elected members of the Texas House of Representatives.

Charm in the Tea Party

Hundreds of Tea Party folks got up early to take on the politicians.  They were well armed with documentation clearly showing rationale, lists and maps of the capitol offices, and their  sunny dispositions, tenacity, and willingness to try to influence Republican legislators who would be voting in the caucus later in the day.

Conservatives and Tea Party members are expressing concern that given the overwhelming victory in the number of House Republicans, Joe Straus, who received most of his support from Democrats voting for him in the last session, is not conservative and should be ‘ousted.’ AND 89-90% of conservatives, including Republican Precinct Chairs from all over the state, voted for Ken Paxton.

Seen at retail car proprietorship, on the way home.  Lots of retired cop cars.

Normally I would assume these things would be handled by wholesalers.  Never seen a retail lot full of them before.. there’s four rows of these things.

I’m not a betting man, but if I were I’d bet you a paycheck I’ve ridden in at least three of these.

Not in the front seat.

It’s an open secret that I enjoy video games, I’ve been playing them for 38 years, from Pong to Call of Duty, Atari to Wii. It’s pretty cheap entertainment for an old dude on Social Security.

Recently I’ve been playing Red Dead Redemption, a Western themed game where you play a man whose wife and son are being held for ransom. You have to accomplish many tasks to get them back, some of them not quite legal or morally suspect, sort of like being in Congress.

Video games are comprised of many elements that make up the whole experience, among which are:
Graphics – How realistic does the landscape and the people look?
Sound Effects – Explosions, shots, wind in the trees, birds, animals…
Voice Acting - How believable are the voices? Do the lips on the characters move realistically? Many well known actors have lent their talents to games; Ray Liotta, Samuel Jackson, James Woods, Ron Perlman, Peter Fonda, Felicia Day, Ice T, Kyle MacLachlan, Brad Dourif…
Animation – How realistically do people/animals/objects move?
Atmosphere – Sunlight, shadows, clouds, dust, fire, rain, snowflakes.
Theme music – The background soundtrack.
Plot – Some video games have no storyline or a bad one, just like a crappy movie.
Songs – Not too many games have a special ‘song’, in fact, I can’t think of any off the top of my head.
Red Dead Redemption excels in all these elements. It was recently named Game of the Year.

Here was my experience with the ‘Song’ in the game. It’s called Far Away.
In the game, my character had just finished holding off a bazillion outlaws while floating down the river on a raft.
I arrived on the deserted shore and said goodbye to my crazy Irish partner. I saddled my horse and started riding towards the setting sun. After I had gone a while, this song started playing.
Took me totally by surprise.

Far Away perfectly expressed the mood of the protagonist; riding all alone on a dusty trail, heading for danger and thinking about his loved ones. It was an awesome moment.

I realize that none of y’all are going to appreciate the impact that this song had on me at that point in the game but I hope you like it a little bit.
Here’s a beautifully edited montage of scenes from the game. Unfortunately the music cuts off before the end but you will get the idea.

This ain’t your Grandpa’s video game…. No wait, maybe it is.

The Wussification Of The Modern Tone Of Voice January 6, 2011

SPEAK WITH CONVICTION!

The video below is actually a poetry reading, which is highly entertaining all by itself, but also addresses an important observation — the tone of voice of our discourse has become pathetic.  The poet captures this tone precisely.

It’s the difference between the the moral certainty of unambiguous declarations by Reagan, and the politically nuanced obfuscation and dissembling by Obama.

So many of us no longer sound  like we know  what we are talking about, because it’s not cool to seem certain.  It’s cool to think everything is relative, everything is a compromise.

The Tea Party is vilified as “extremists” precisely because they sound  certain, even though they really advocate fundamentally mundane and traditional values.  Limited government, fiscal responsibility, adherence to the plain meaning of the Constitution –  this is “extremism”?

Not really.  It’s just that sounding like you mean what you say, and have good reasons for saying so, is not the fashion.  The liberal media pundits scoff at Baby Boomers in Dockers who are actually riled up about something again, and care about America.  They try to school us about moderation, the wisdom of Georgetown party-goers, and realpolitik.

Those pundits are not reacting to ideas.  They are reacting to white hot conviction.

Thanks to Retired Geezer for the tip.

[Updated by Michael to play with new Slideshow feature.]

We had a pretty good storm last week. It was unusually warm and rained for half a day before the snow blew in from the south. I don’t know if the rain helped the snow stick when it came, but the south side of everything really got plastered with snow. The local towns had more tree damage than anyone remembers. I recall a few beautiful mornings when all the trees were covered in frost, but I don’t ever recall this much snow sticking to everything. The Mrs. and I took a camera with us on our Saturday errands and shot a few pictures. These are taken from the road I take to get to work.

Almost Famous… in Finland January 3, 2011

Anybody who has read my blog, knows of my addiction unhealthy fascination interest in the Power Lines that are in the big field near Camp Geezer ™. In fact, when the Skinbad Clan visited us a couple of years ago, I would catch them all staring at them, as if mesmerized.
Many times I have gotten up before sunrise and trudged out through the snow to take photos of them. (the power lines, not Teh Skinbads).
Apparently all that work has paid off.
Back in September I received a letter from a young man in Finland named Tapio Oksa. He liked one of the power line photos that I had posted on my blog and wanted to use it for the cover of his CD. I gave him my blessing to use it in whatever way he wished as long as he gave me photo credit.

Imagine my surprise when I received a package from Kankaanpää, Finland today. Inside were 3 copies of his CD and a nice letter.

TAJU, is the name of his group. It’s a duo with his friend Juho Hakala. Tapio tells me that they do ‘Ambient Music’, using pre-programmed synthesizers and live keyboards. Mrs. Geezer and I enjoyed it. It reminded me of ‘Art of Noise’. Tapio was proud of the fact that they were able to perform at the Milavida Palace, as it was opened to the public for the first time in 12 years. Here’s the picture he sent me of that event.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Michael or Lipstick has visited the palace.

The title of their CD is ‘XYZ‘. You can see that they photoshopped the power lines to spell it out in the picture at the top of this post.

Here’s the money shot: You can click the back side of his CD cover to see my name in lights print. See, I’m Almost Famous.

Best wishes to Tapio and Juho.
Here’s their blog: http://taju.cjb.net/

As of today, Innocent Bystanders has had 3998 visitors from Finland. Perhaps when I tell them about this post, we will reach 4000.
