TXMarko suggested that I feature Karen Carpenter as one of the Great Voices of Rock. He must have been reading my mind. I had the pleasure of running a spotlight for Karen and Richard at the MGM hotel in the 70′s. They had a wonderful show.
This video is one of the best versions of this song that I could find on YouTube, though I confess all the versions I watched were pretty good. I’m thinking that her brother, Richard, did the arrangement. He was/is very talented. You can see him behind Karen on the piano. Two nice hooks in the song; the bass gliss and the French Horns.
Here’s the Wiki for the Carpenters.

For those of you who just want to hear teh voice, Acapella:
Man I had it bad for Karen Carpenter when I was a kid. And Barbara Feldon, of course. Yowza.
Used to go to the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center in Long Beach – very nice facility they donated to CSULB. They have some of their memorabilia there.
This might not suit your tastes at all, but here’s a cover of Superstar which I really like:
the “stalker” cover.
