The dumbing down of America continues:
In an internal memo issued to staffers last week, [Wall Street] Journal higher-ups said the term GOP will be dropped because not all readers know what the letters mean, and some may not realize that they are a reference to the Republican Party.
Sigh.
Eh, I don’t know. We’ve probably shed quite a lot of idioms and old references just in the natural course of things.
Passage of time, you know.
Get off my lawn.
Just seems to me that if you can remember the names of pop groups, movie stars, video games, etc., then you could be expected to remember that “GOP” represents the Republican Party, even if you don’t know what it stands for.
160+ years…that’s a pretty good run for a nickname.
The part where I rolled my eyes was where they said that it may be regarded by some as ‘spin.’
Next they’ll be dropping “USA” as an acronym.
I just hope nobody hijacks the name Geezer for nefarious purposes.
Hey you hippies, get off Lauraw’s lawn.
Did the Whigs have a nickname?
Well, you have to admit……kids nowadays have no attention span. What if they get GOP and GWAR confused? That could get ugly.
Good point, Russ.
I frequently confuse Dave in Texas with Super Dave Osborne.
It’s probably the injuries.
And the magnetic personality.
