Big dude ain't he? Topped out around 350 when he was Preznit. Yes, he did get stuck in the bathtub at the White House.
After he left office he dropped a ton of weight. When he died he was 244, right around his college wrestling weight.
Having lost a few pounds myself, I found that encouraging. He was quite a bit older than me and didn't have Atkins.
I have no doubt I will hit my college weight in about 3 months. Then I will get hit by a truck. Or a meteor.
These things happen.

Welcome aboard to Dave in Texas and Civetta, who are now registered authors on this site (along with skinbad, BrewFan and me).
Authorizing Dave was, of course, a no-brainer.
Civetta was another question. As expected, she was unable to produce the requested three affidavits attesting to her virtuous character. In fact, she couldn't come up with one unsigned statement on a cocktail napkin to that effect.
However, she did pinkie-swear on her mother's grave that she has
never not recently been arrested convicted for drunk and disorderly conduct, solicitation, mail and wire fraud, indecent exposure, disturbing the peace treason.
I guess that's close enough.
Welcome also to Mrs. Peel and Elzbth, who have just signed up to be Main Page Commenters (this is not a blog!). We now have a Genuine Nerd and a Really
Nice Very Sweet Person to round out the lineup of losers, misanthropes and serial onanists that had previously been recruited.

Brigham Young: "So what's a Calvinist anyway?"
Calvin: "Shut up, Brigham."
Lex Lutheran: "Yea, don't go making fun of anyone's religion."
Brigham Young: "You guys come back and talk to me in a few years when you can grow a decent beard. B.Dog–out!"
UPDATED Traffic Report – posted by Michael March 30, 2006Posted by Michael in AA - Uncategorized.
There's no Sitemeter here, but the Dashboard for this site has a chart which shows the number of views for the last 30 days. According to WordPress, the views do not include an administrator (e.g., me) accessing the site from within WordPress, so I always log in to look so that my hits won't count. The "days" appear to be based on Greenwich Mean Time, so it's already early evening today. Unfortunately, I can't copy the chart (or I just don't know how to), so here are the numbers:
3/27 58 (Thanks to Blabber-Mouth Geezer)
3/29 91 (Peel-a-lanche nearly overwhelms server)
147 210 248 285 302
(33 hits so for as of 10:10 p.m. EST for 3/31 WordPress time)
Ask Somebody Thursday? – Michael March 30, 2006Posted by Michael in AA - Uncategorized.
Many of you are no doubt wondering if you will be able to ask me a question and get a clever answer, given that this was a hallowed tradition for us at Letters from Desolation Row.
The 'mailbag post' concept was invented by commenter BrewFan and has been widely imitated by less original personalities such as Dave at Garfield Ridge, Hay Zeus, and Jack Michaels. I refuse to follow in their footsteps by slavishly mimicking BrewFan. As far as I'm concerned, Brew owns the franchise and it's up to him whether he wants to put up a post inviting questions.
In the thread below, you are welcome to
twist Brewfan's arm opine on whether Ask Brewfan Thursday should be revived.

NOT going in the new basement! – BrewFan
Can I Get Any Lower? March 29, 2006Posted by BrewFan in AA - Uncategorized.
Now that I've sucked you in with that catchy comment title the real topic here is basement finishing. I am in the process of planning and beginning the finishing of my basement. I met with a friend tonight who is a contractor and we're going to trade services; he's going to help me finish my basement and I'm going to do a website for him. Sweet.
Anyway, I was wondering if any of our thousands of readers have ever finished their basements and if so what are the things I should pay particular attention to.

By the way, my dashboard tipped me to the fact that this site has already been linked by the Skylark of Valeron. Fortunately, the resulting Peel-o-lanche has not overwhelmed our bandwidth.

Brewfan and skinbad are now both authorized to comment on the main page of this site. (This is not a real blog, and we are not bloggers, OK? We are commenters.)
How I ended up sharing a site with a Calvinist and a Mormon is beyond me. My Lutheran preacher daddy is spinning in his grave.
If any other veterans of BlogWisconsin would like to post here, feel free to send me an email. You need to set up a WordPress account and activate it by entering a password. All I need to know is your UserID (which is case sensitive).
Or, if you're Civetta, you may submit the 13-page application form, along with notarized affidavits from three community leaders attesting to your high moral standards and virtuous character.
New blog name will be forthcoming in a few days when Brew, skinny and I have a chance to discuss it. Thanks for all the great suggestions.
And now, a poignant moment:
Minerva: "Register for both yourself and your son."
Batman: "Although I'd be proud if he were, this is not my son, this is Robin the Boy Wonder."
That always chokes me up.
