Good Lord Dave! $900 for a mike?

I’ll chip in for a Mr. Microphone, but this is outrageous.

(Written as I order $20 alpaca socks.)

2. mesablue - November 27, 2007

Nice mic, for the guitar or vocals?

You’re recording stuff?

3. daveintexas - November 28, 2007

nah, for a git you use the $140 hammer from Buchanan!

4. Farmer Joe - November 28, 2007

One of my old bassists used an Ashdown head. That thing sounded amazing.

To record a guitar, you use an $89 SM-57. No muss, no fuss.

5. Dave in Texas - November 28, 2007

I’ve been using the same Shure SM-57 for about 15 years. I don’t even put it on a stand, just lay it over the amp.

6. Farmer Joe - November 28, 2007

See? You don’t need no fancy-schmancy tube mic.

7. Dave in Texas - November 28, 2007

well I was thinking vocal on the tube, but it’s just an expensive toy really

8. Retired Geezer - November 28, 2007

I wanna get one of those thingys that Peter Frampton used to make his guitar talk.

What are those called?

9. skinbad - November 28, 2007

He uses it on one of those insurance commercials (Peter Frampton not Dave in Texas). Clever ads.

10. Michael - November 28, 2007

well I was thinking vocal on the tube

Dave, we’ve heard you sing. You posted the video yourself. There is not a mike on the planet that’s going to make a difference.

11. Cathy - November 28, 2007

Who cares if it makes a difference.

Men like toys with power cords.

Tim the Tool-Man Taylor said that… prolly.

12. Michael - November 28, 2007

For those of you who missed it, Dave actually can sing. Here’s the video featuring Dave putting his heart and soul into a Texas dance hall performance of Smoke on the Water.

The Frampton gizmo is called, appropriately enough, a “talk box”. It’s basically a speaker inside a box with a tube that goes into your mouth. As the sound waves come up through the tube, you use your mouth to modulate them.
