doing the job

Via Hot Air today.

1. BrewFan - January 14, 2008

I looked those words up in the Oxford English Dictionary. Justin’s picture was nowhere to be found. Go figure.

2. BrewFan - January 14, 2008

Justin’s comment reminded me about a post I had in mind last month but got too busy to do; the anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. 19,000 American boys killed within the span of a month. Trying to liberate Germans, who, by the way, didn’t want to be liberated. 61,000 American boys wounded within the span of a month. Trying to liberate Germans who really had it much better under Hitler then they would have it under the Allied occupation for the next several years. My Dad was there. He was one of the lucky ones who survived. He didn’t quit and run to Canada though. He wasn’t happy about being there but he figured he needed to stay and help his friends. He felt it was his duty and he felt honor-bound to do his duty until the job was finished. Thanks God there are many, many more Johns then there are Justins.

I admit I might have had some motivation.

Goddamn that put me in a foul mood.

I thought of this man, and the pain and hurt his commitment to his duty brought to bear.

That little shit isn’t worthy to carry this man’s boots.

I thought of this man too.

And so many others, many whom you all care about so much. Who have and had the guts and the integrity to do what they chose to do.

man I have a black spot tonight.

4. BrewFan - January 14, 2008

man I have a black spot tonight.

I hear ya, bro. It wasn’t bad enough that a turd fell out of the sky but it just had to be a self-righteous turd, too. Sheesh.

5. daveintexas - January 14, 2008

seriously. I got truly angry.

you guys don’t need that shit from me.

hey, I did a Ron Paul funny at AoS tonight. I’m way happier about that.

Pay no attention to that grumpy motherfucker behind the curtain.

6. dr4 - January 14, 2008

I posted this yesterday in another thread. A nice musical tribute to the soldiers of World War One:

7. daveintexas - January 14, 2008

Ok, that confused me, cause I was not familiar with the Motorhead tune… listening to that and seeing the confluence of Caen 1944 battle footage threw me.

8. dr4 - January 14, 2008

yeah i cant say ive ever heard too many Motorhead tunes like that one. What a depressing song. But it’s true though. People forget about all the nameless soldiers who have died for freedom. Its human nature, but still depressing.

9. Michael - January 14, 2008

Cathy just instructed me to say hi to everyone for her, as she did not bring a computer.

The following message is from Cathy:

Dave, very powerful stuff. Thank you.

Who is this Justin person and what did he say?

12. Michael - January 14, 2008

you guys don’t need that shit from me.

Aw heck, Dave. If you can’t get annoyed with a cowardly little fuckweasel at IB, where can you do it?

Who is this Justin person and what did he say?

Justin was one of the subjects of a year-old post of mine on deserters, who showed up today to defend himself.

Hang on, I’ll get you the link.

13. geoff - January 14, 2008

Aw for Pete’s sake, I’m getting old waiting for Michael to dig up this link.

There you go, Cranky.

14. Michael - January 14, 2008

Here’s the wisdom of Justin, the proud deserter.

15. Michael - January 14, 2008

Jeez GeoFF, I was actually troubling myself to link to the specific comment. I bet you don’t even know how to do that. Anyway, you should be busy generating a chart about the threat posed by the SIno-Russian alliance, you paranoid wanker.

16. Michael - January 14, 2008

Bart, Cathy says “hi” back to you personally.

Then she wondered aloud if I would like to shave my chest.

What’s up with that?

17. Michael - January 14, 2008

Speaking of Geoff’s paranoia, he has a very interesting post here in case you missed it.

18. PattyAnn - January 14, 2008

Dave, if you didn’t see this, I hope it brightens the black a little.

19. PattyAnn - January 14, 2008

Hi, Cathy!
*waving both arms in the air like I just don’t care*

20. Michael - January 14, 2008

Geoff also has an interesting post on China’s propaganda machine here, based on a tip from Laura.

21. Michael - January 14, 2008

Cathy says “hi” to you too, and please stop waving like a retard.

(I love answering for Cathy.)

22. geoff - January 15, 2008

I bet you don’t even know how to do that.

Didn’t occur to me to try. But how hard could it be?

And . . . Hiya, Cathy!!

23. dr4 - January 15, 2008

Ok, that confused me, cause I was not familiar with the Motorhead tune… listening to that and seeing the confluence of Caen 1944 battle footage threw me.

uh you were talking about a WW1 song with WW2 video werent you? I was just trying to find an online version of the song. It was either the ww2 video or one of a guy standing with his face pressed against the wall for 3 and a half minutes.

24. Dave in Texas - January 15, 2008

Yeah, a bit, but then I got it. Songs about war and pain are timeless, like the Cav and “Garry Owen”.

25. GrumpyUnk - January 15, 2008

Real nice video. Thanks for posting that.

G-d bless our young men and women in uniform.
Might be a good time to become a sponsor and sign up with Soldiers Angels if you haven’t already. You’ll be glad you did.

Thanks for the other links, too. Unk
