More Money for Lawyers April 30, 2008

Posted by Michael in News.

I’m all for that.

There’s just no end to silly shit that people litigate about.

Take, for example, the Greek island of Lesbos. It has a pretty, pacific appearance:

But the lawyers there are still making money.

(AP) A Greek court has been asked to draw the line between the natives of the Aegean Sea island of Lesbos and the world’s gay women.

Three islanders from Lesbos – home of the ancient poet Sappho, who praised love between women – have taken a gay rights group to court for using the word lesbian in its name.

One of the plaintiffs said Wednesday that the name of the association, Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece, “insults the identity” of the people of Lesbos, who are also known as Lesbians.

Get over it. You should have sued Sappho , but she’s been dead for awhile.

“My sister can’t say she is a Lesbian,” said Dimitris Lambrou. “Our geographical designation has been usurped by certain ladies who have no connection whatsoever with Lesbos,” he said.

Tell your sister to say: “I live on the Island of Lesbos.” And make sure she doesn’t have a dyke haircut.

The three plaintiffs are seeking to have the group barred from using “lesbian” in its name and filed a lawsuit on April 10. The other two plaintiffs are women.

In the interest of keeping the peace, I proffer these alternate names, free for the taking by either party:

Lesbites (might be confused with the medical term for attacks by rabid lesbians)
Lesbornigans (for the Christian Lesbian)
Lesismorians (kind of a promotional name)

Surely if each party agreed to take one name from the list, they could reach a just, inexpensive compromise.

When did that automatically generated possibly related posts feature appear?

It links this post to one about a podcast by a former co-chair of the Green Party of the US (“The Secret Frequency”).

I can’t wait for the residents of Fucktardistan to follow the Lesbians’ lead and take someone to court.

Why can’t they settle it like in the movies I watch?
