Merry Christmas December 14, 2008

I’m a bit of a grinch.  Call me crazy, but I don’t much care for Christmas music.  Maybe I’ve just already heard enough of it in two or three seasons for a lifetime.  Maybe I’m just an evil, soulless monster.

Even so, this is really nice:

I think Michael and Cathy were watching these young ladies perform when I was at their house, so maybe they know more about them than I do.  I can’t imagine actually leaping around a stage while trying to play a violin.

Is that the Celtic Woman stuff? My wife has their CDs. We used to me a supporter of our local pBS station, just so she could get tickets to shows like this and to Sissel.

I now can use a child callously as the excuse to roll public broadcasting and not support it, and I feels goods about it.

2. eddiebear - December 14, 2008

I meant be a supporter.

3. Retired Geezer - December 15, 2008

I think Sobek was watching the Celtic Women DVD that I brought to the IBSBP.

4. Muslihoon - December 15, 2008

Wonderful video, Sobek. Thanks. It’s an interesting rendition.

5. Wickedpinto - December 15, 2008

Yeah, the sorta bizzarre semi-opera thing that I was curious about. Not cuz of the music or the dancing, but cuz there were a few chicks with awesome juggs, so I ended up asking The Good Lady Geezer about where they got it, then I was sent to Old Scary near a gun Geezer, who sent me back to Good Lady Geezer.

Don’t know if they were fucking with me.

6. Wickedpinto - December 15, 2008

I bet they were.
Old people are mean.

7. Mr Minority - December 15, 2008

Maybe I’m just an evil, soulless monster.

I don’t want to believe that you are a soulless monster, but your dislike of Christmas music leaves no choice but to believe you.

8. Michael - December 15, 2008

I gotta go with Mr. M on this issue.

9. Pupster - December 15, 2008

I turned on XM radio’s Christmas music while the Pupster Boys and I were wrapping Christmas presents yesterday. The boys really threw themselves into the job, none of the usual lolly-gagging. When the last present was wrapped, Boy 1 handed it to me and pleaded ‘There…we’re done, could you please turn off that awful noise now?’

Tomorrow, they will be cleaning their rooms to the melodious sounds of Merle Haggard, and washing the dishes to opera.

10. Mr Minority - December 15, 2008

Years ago I download a bunch of great mixed Christmas songs and made CDs for friends and family to enjoy. It now has become a tradition for the family to play this CD as we decorate the tree.

I love Christmas music, it gets me in the proper mood for the season.

11. Lipstick - December 15, 2008

My sister and I used to take the Elvis Christmas Album (on tape) on Christmas cruises and have the bartenders crank it up at the pool bar.

“Maybe I’m just an evil, soulless monster.” Everyone here knows you are a lawyer, so isn’t the above quote a bit redundant? 😉

13. Michael - December 15, 2008

Hey!

Did that work to drown out your belching?

15. Cathy - December 15, 2008

… AND thanks again Geezer and Mrs. Geezer for giving us the Celtic Women dvd.

Listening to Celtic Christmas music earlier while making Christmas gifts. Thought how much I enjoyed the dvd you gave us. Will get it out and watch it while I continue my elf-work.

Zing! hahaha!

17. Lipstick - December 15, 2008

Did that work to drown out your belching?

Pretty much, yeah.

One time on a cruise, we were all in the lounge listening to a lecture about the ancient Greek ruins at our next port and an elderly gent just lifted his cheek and let one rip. It was blatant. He was old enough that he just didn’t give a crap.

(Or maybe he did, heh)

Sometimes, I suspect that Cathy is actually a natural member of The Hostages demographic.

20. Sobek - December 15, 2008

Michael and Cathy, what’s the name of that Celtic Woman thing? Is it the one from Slane Castle?

21. Dave in Texas - December 15, 2008

>> Maybe I’m just an evil, soulless monster.

Well I never considered the possibility that you were a benevolent Croc-deity.

Now that I’ve considered it I’m still rejecting the notion.

22. Cathy - December 15, 2008

Sobek. Yep.

Celtic Women – A New Journey – Live at Slane Castle, Ireland.

23. nicedeb - December 15, 2008

I love Celtic Woman, in fact I posted one of their Christmas tunes at Nice Deb, last December. If you enjoy Irish Christmas music, you should try Celtic Christmas by the O’Reilly Consort.

A friend of mine picked up a CD at one of those bargain bins for a couple of bucks, and made a copy for me. This CD has turned out to be a favorite of ours. My husband loves it, too. I sang one of the songs at our Christmas concert at church, last year.

NOW Sobek shows an interest, like he’s trying to pretend he has a soul or something. Not buying it.

25. lauraw - December 17, 2008

Whoever turned that song into a Garmin commercial needs to be soundly thwacked with a frozen mackerel.

26. composmentis - December 17, 2008

Agreed lw. My 8 year old has heard me comment more than a few times, “Well, that was irritating as HELL.” after having to endure that fingernails-across-the-chalkboard grating turd.

27. lauraw - December 17, 2008

It’s nice to be validated.
