And after that celebration, he partied like a champion:

1. Lipstick - March 27, 2009

In the first video, that guy needs a serious head-butting.

What a clod.

2. BrewFan - March 27, 2009

I was waiting for the dude to kick him square in the man-marbles and was disappointed when he didn’t. Geezer would never do that. He has pictures of himself with nekkid showgirls. He is *secure* in his abilities.

3. White Lily - March 27, 2009

So here’s a question: What do you think the best things to come out of Britain are? Definitely not “Brideshead Revisited.”

4. BrewFan - March 27, 2009

The Dave Clark Five

5. eddiebear - March 27, 2009

The United States.

6. Mrs. Peel - March 28, 2009

The defeat of the Spanish Armada.

Seriously, if you have to pick one date when the course of history changed, 1588 is a good candidate. (Invention of the printing press is a good candidate as well.)

7. Michael - March 28, 2009

Invention of the printing press is a good candidate as well.

Yup, Gutenberg made Luther possible, and Luther made the Renaissance possible. Without Gutenberg, we would not be able to attend amusing Renaissance Faires to the this very day.

8. BrewFan - March 28, 2009

Did Gutenberg have an idea of what impact his work would have? I think so. In his own words, “…religious truth is imprisoned in a small number of manuscripts, which confine instead of spread this public treasure. Let us break the seal which binds these holy things; let us give wings to Truth in order that she may win every soul that comes into the world by her word, no longer written at vast expense, but multiplied everlastingly by a machine which never wearies.”

9. Dave in Texas - March 28, 2009

Steve Gutenberg?

Come on. That’s a bit of a stretch.

10. Retired Geezer - March 28, 2009

^ Brewfan, great quote. Thanks for revealing it.

11. "Gute" Gutenberg - March 28, 2009

And pron. Did I mention Pron?

12. daveintexas - March 28, 2009

What about it?

13. "Gute" Gutenberg - March 28, 2009

A use for the printing press, silly.

14. Michael - March 28, 2009

Gute, movable type is no substitute for free downloadable .flv conversion utilities.

15. Michael - March 28, 2009

To download YouTube videos, here’s what you do:

1. Use Firefox.
2. Get the Download Helper add-on. Click Tools, Add-Ons, Get Add-Ons, Browse Add-Ons, and then search for Download Helper.
3. After adding Download Helper, right click the three-ball icon on your toolbar, click on Preferences, click on Conversion, click on whatever tells you to download the conversion utility.
4. Download that utility, and tell it you want to convert videos to your favorite format, probably .wmv for Widows Media Player.

Then, when you are watching a video, the three balls will start spinning, and you can just click to grab the video. Give it a file destination with a .wmv suffix and it will convert automatically to the Windows Media Viewer format (you have to wait a few minutes after the download is complete for this to happen, but it will tell you when this is done. You will see a little pop-up on the lower left corner of your screen. There is no loss of video quality.)

This is exactly how I grabbed Dave’s History of Innocent Bystanders video from his YouTube account, downloaded it to my hard drive, and then uploaded it to WordPress as a .wmv file rather than YouTube’s .flv format, so it would be available under the About tab as a WP video. WordPress will accept a .wmv file, but not a .flv.

Gute, movable type is no substitute for free downloadable .flv conversion utilities.

Well, you gotta start somewhere.

17. Dave in Texas - March 29, 2009

Of course, I could have just sent him the .wmv file.

But noooooooooooo. Techie McPutergoober just had to show off his mad skilz.

18. xbradtc - March 29, 2009

His mad skilz consisted of reading a comment I sent him about DL Helper. Which, by the by, can download most .flv files. Even a goodly number of naughty ones. I only know this because I was testing the utility of the program.

19. Michael - March 29, 2009

Xbrad speaks truth — I found out about DL Helper from a comment he left here. But he forgot to tell me that the conversion utility has to be separately downloaded after you install the download helper. So for a long time I thought the program just didn’t work, until I finally started looking through the tabs and figured this out.
