This was a neat encapsulation of how Spielberg and Lucas put the Raiders of the Lost Ark story together.

How much trouble can a camel be?

That’s a confident man.

Did any of y’all read The Secret History of Star Wars? I think Ace linked it a while back. The whole manuscript isn’t available for free anymore, but basically, it was a meticulously researched and cited document that purported to demonstrate that pretty much everything George Lucas has ever said about writing Star Wars was a lie.

For example, there’s a lot of evidence to suggest that Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker were two different characters, right up until Lucas had a brain wave during the filming of Empire Strikes Back. Which completely contradicts his new story that Star Wars as a whole is the story of Anakin Skywalker gone bad. (That’s why Obi-Wan, when confronted with his statement [from A New Hope] that Darth Vader killed Anakin, had to say that he told the truth “from a certain point of view.” It was, if you’ll forgive the term, hand-waving.)

This one assertion, if true, brings the entire story of Star Wars crashing to the ground, because Lucas has been claiming for a while now that the saga is the life story of Anakin Skywalker (true) and was planned to be so from the beginning (apparently, not true).

I should mention that the link was suggested by Mrs. geoff.

Thanks to Mrs. Geoff.

I’ve never given much thought to how films are put together. But Michael and I did have a friend who wrote a successful novel that was made into a film. Our author friend sold the movie rights and lost control of the screenplay or production. The film did not do well and our friend was extremely frustrated and disappointed with it.

It seems from what I picked up skimming this encapsulation that the Raiders movie success can be attributed more to the raw gifted-ness of the persons Spielberg and Lucas and how they related to one another. Their ideas were the result of this partnership.

The Creative Mix of Spielberg & Lucas

Yeah, cuz they have been so successful since.

Effing Lucas killed American zootrope with his THX movie, but he didn’t care, and after he killed zootrope, he claimed the FX department.

Classic, “never sell a friend your goat” as balki bartokamous says.

Lucas totaly stabbed Francis in the back.

Zootrope should have had distribution rights of godfather, but lucas didn’t care about francis’s efforts, cuz it’s all about lucas’s retarded efforts.

I think I saw (in the “American Cinema” series) francis being very nice to Lucas, personaly I would have stabbed my best friend in the face if he drove my dream into bankruptcy, and then myself for letting him.

THX was so expensive, because of reshoots and arrogant directorial manipulations, that that one move, made up more than 1/2 of the total budget for American Zooetrope, not 1/2 for that year, but 1/2 Total! which was almost 5 years for an indy film company.

If you saw THX it was the CopRock of indy film.
