Dear Rep. West:

Just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that, although I live a long ways from your district (I’m in Dallas County, Texas), I contributed to your campaign and I enjoy receiving your emails and hearing about you on the news.

I’m proud that I supported you, and that you are standing up for the values we believe in.   I consider you to be an American first, and you probably could qualify as a Texan as well.  Keep me on the list for your next campaign.

Best regards,

Michael

Dear Michael,

Over this past week I have watched and listened to Members of the House of Representatives from across the aisle.

I am appalled at their arrogance, belligerence, and dishonest rhetoric filled with empty emotional platitudes. Have they no shame in realizing that their inept, incompetent failures are the reason why we are debating this continuing resolution? They failed to pass a budget during the 111th Congress.

Have they no honor in realizing that their fiscal irresponsibility over the past four years has resulted in our standing on the precipice of a fiscal canyon from which we may not recover?

Also troubling are the events in the state of Wisconsin which mirror those that happened in Greece several months ago. We are witnessing the abject hostility of a unionized entitlement class that is being lauded by the liberal left, seemingly to include our President.

It is such a critical time for our Republic, yet there seems no visionary leadership – it is as if America stopped producing adults. I have never seen a greater assembly of petulance and sophomoric behavior as what I have witnessed this week during debate on the floor of the House of Representatives.

To those across the aisle, please explain to the American people how your economic policies have created a better environment for long term sustainable growth. This debate is about jobs and the economy.

It begins with remedying the spending problem on Capitol Hill. It includes tackling the burdensome taxation and regulation policies strangling our country. It is the understanding that Keynesian tax and spend policies did not grow America’s economy, but the indomitable, entrepreneurial spirit of the American People.

Government sets the conditions for job and economic growth, it does not create jobs. I am pleased that we are having open debate in the people’s house. However, there is clearly something lacking in this discourse – the recognition of the failure of the bureaucratic nanny-state liberal policies.

Rest assured that I will do everything in my ability to stand firm and lead on the principles that make America exceptional.

Sincerely,

Allen West
Member of Congress

Wow. This guy gets it. I hope he speaks this frankly and plainly with his colleagues in D.C. Way to go, Michael, for supporting him.

The shit going on in Wisconsin makes my blood boil.

“Oh, the democratically elected representatives of the legislative body in which I serve (using the term loosely) might enact legislation I don’t care for? Well, I’ll just leave my post, abdicate my responsibility and go play the slots out of state for a while.” I would have the troopers at the state line waiting to arrest any who would do this. If the legislature is in session – you are costing the taxpayers MORE money for your juvenile hijinks!! Okay, time to simmer for a bit.

Again, great post. Oh, and congrats on retiring? I poked around a bit but didn’t see any official announcements. If I’m sticking my foot in an orifice (we all have our own special talents), please ignore.

Doc, West is ex-military — a Lt. Col. in the Army. I don’t think he’s going to back down in D.C.

And thanks for the good wishes on my retirement. It’s going well so far, except that my dogs Cathy has been in Colorado for the past two weeks.

While he was with the 4th ID he was stationed at Ft. Hood, so, yeah. Honorary Texan.

I spoke with some Wisconsin folks on FB this morning. One of them was LIVID. Quote:

“Steve Johnston:
I’ve lost what little respect I had left for teachers this week. My kid’s teachers encouraged the kids to walk out school and off school grounds to show support for their union. All without parental consent. I went to the school asking were my children were. They had no idea. Then the teachers left. But they are still being paid. Yep. I’m paying them not to work.”

This should be Criminal Negligence or Child Endangerment/Neglect in my non-lawyer opinion….

Michael, you retired?
Congrats, and best wishes!

Now I don’t have to feel guilty if I decide to change my cell phone service provider, do I?

7. BrewFan - February 19, 2011

Tushar, when are you moving to Wisconsin?

8. Michael - February 19, 2011

Michael, you retired?

Yes.

Now I don’t have to feel guilty if I decide to change my cell phone service provider, do I?

Yes, you do. I still have stock options. Switch in five years. Not before, or your circumstances in the Lutheran Reeducation Camps™ might not be so good.
