Oh, we’ve got some contenders here, that’s for sure.  How about this little number:

I’m wearing a canoe on my head!

.

Here’s Princess Anne, who has never been known as the snappiest dresser and she lives up to expectations:

I’m wearing a felt-covered upside down colander on my head!

.

But wait!  There’s more!

Getting Rid of RINOs April 28, 2011

They need to go. Just sayin’.

Senator Dick Lugar from Indiana is Obama’s favorite liberal Republican. He used to represent me. He has been in D.C. way too long, and has totally lost touch with his Hoosier constituency, which are largely hard working salt-of-the-earth people in flat corn country. Lugar, I suppose, is a welcome guest at Georgetown cocktail parties.

Indiana’s current Treasurer, a Tea Party insurgent, is trying to oust him.

Everybody have their Tivos set to catch all the action?  OK, good.

One of the burning questions about the wedding is “Will Kate wear a tiara and if so, which one will it be?”

Well, it seems like somebody may have some inside information as a lady made a substantial bet that Kate will wear the Russian Fringe tiara that the queen wore at her own wedding.

I hope she does, as it will be a big eff you to the snobs who make fun of her mom for being “a former air hostess”.

Discuss.

Update:  Here is a photoshop of how this might look:

The Wood Stain Help Blog April 26, 2011

Help!  Set a laundry basket down on the pretty wood surface of my kitchen island not knowing it was wet. Bummer!!!

Wood Water Stain! S.O.S. = Save Our Surface.

This morning a lovely mark appeared on my wood surface. I’ve rubbed it with Goof-Off and Pledge, but the mark is still there. Batman suggested I check for a solution online.  Lots of good ideas, but which one should I try?

Reports of Us Gettin’ Some Learnin’ May Have Been Greatly Exaggerated April 26, 2011

Hey Fey Folk: I’ve been wrestling for a while with what I’m going to do when I grow up, and I guess I’ve decided that I’m going to be an entrepreneur again. So I’m going to try to resuscitate my old company and be [Rex Kramer] in charge, the boss, the head man, top dog, big cheese, a head honcho, number…[/Rex Kramer].

This is going to require a small amount of time and energy, so blogging is going to be something I can’t do much of. Which brings us to the macroeconomics venture. I really want to do it, but I just don’t see how I’ll have the time. I apologize for being a tease, and I hope that somebody else can pick it up in my place. Please?

On the upside, if I get rich, I’ll buy you guys a round.

Back when Detroit and the assembly line changed the world.

Happy Easter!

And never forget what America is capable of.

Did you know that the Model T was the original SUV?  Watch to the end and you will see what I mean.

Ok, here’s the deal.  I buy things I like, and I stick em in the ground, and I hope for the best.

Sometimes it works out.  Sometimes not so much.

There is no plan.  There is only hope, and random experience.

Our Professor

Welcome to the first-ever IB online course, and the second in a hopefully continuing series of attempts to use blogging to better ourselves (the first attempt being the IB Book Club). Our instructor for the course is Veronica Guerrieri, an Associate Professor in Economics at the University of Chicago who taught this course while visiting MIT in 2009. Given that our alternative could easily have been someone like Paul Krugman, I think we’re off to a good start.

Summary of Lecture 1 below the fold:

You’re Gonna Wish You’d Kept Up with the Book Club April 21, 2011

Say, I got an idee. I was reading some economic stuff today, and wishing that I had a better background in macroeconomics so I could hammer on the Keynesians more effectively. Then I remembered that MIT has posted pretty much all of its course material online, including 14.02 Principles of Macroeconomics. So I was thinking:

Anybody want to go through the course with me?

I looked at the first lecture, and it was kind of annoyingly chatty but not too dense. There are 24 lectures in total: maybe we could do one a week, varying the pace for the difficulty of the content?

I know this is probably doomed to failure, if it takes off the ground at all. But I thought I’d ask anyway.

Big U.S. Firms Moving Jobs Out of U.S. April 20, 2011

Since Obama took over, the trend has continued unabated.

Interactive graph here from the Wall Street Journal.

Here’s the gist of it:

The Wall Street Journal reports (sub. req.) that during the last decade U.S. multinationals reduced their domestic workforce by 2.9 million, according to Commerce Department figures. During the same period, those same companies increased their overseas workforce by 2.4 million. As recently as the 1990s, things were different: Multinationals were adding jobs both domestically and overseas.

, . . .

U.S. multinationals are a crucial player in the economy. They employ about 20 percent of all American workers, and, according to the McKinsey Global Institute, account for 23 percent of the country’s private-sector output. Since they’re more exposed to global trends, they often point the way toward where the economy is going.

With jobs czar under fire, new data confirm offshoring trend
