Something for your Lazy Sunday…

Palo Duro Canyon - Texas Panhandle

During my visit to the beautiful Palo Duro Canyon, I could not get the Mommas and the Pappas song out of my mind. I knew I would share these pics with you beloved blog-buds.

Palo Duro Canyon is located in Canyon Texas a half hour south of Amarillo.  From all the flat land around there, you would never guess that such a beautiful and expansive canyon existed in the region.

When we were in Santa Fe a few years back, I learned artist Georgia O’Keeffe was a school teacher in Canyon and Amarillo when she was a young woman fresh out of college. She taught art classes in the school systems. She had several suitors during her years in Texas, but I think her first love was Palo Duro Canyon.  This place inspired her to paint her rugged landscapes of the Southwest, and probably had a lot to do with her eventual move to the Santa Fe, Ghost Ranch, and Abiquiu New Mexico.

More pics…

I think there’s a raunchy pun in there somewhere.

The canyon looks lovely, but a little warm.

Depending on how long she was gone, she may have other things in mind.
