The Real Class Warfare October 31, 2011

I liked Spengler’s column today:
Has America become irrational? Not since the 1930s have politics been so polarized, from the Tea Party movement on one side of the spectrum to the Occupy Wall Street protesters on the other. Why does the right object so vehemently to government spending? And why does the left attack private capital with parallel passion? The answer lies not in the American psyche, but in the statistics.
America is engaged in class war, but not of the sort one reads about in the mainstream press. … This is a war of survival between the productive middle class on one hand, and the dependents of the state on the other.
He goes on to note that though federal tax collections have dropped, state and local tax collections have increased, even while state & local budgets continue to run in the red. The middle class is getting squeezed by higher taxes and watching their wealth, largely invested in their homes, shrink.
Meanwhile, members of public unions are enjoying protected wages and very generous pension plans, courtesy of the Dems:
…households that considered themselves comfortably middle class, and looked forward to a comfortable and secure retirement, find themselves on the edge of calamity.
…
The crisis has called into being a political movement of the exasperated middle class, namely the Tea Party. It has erased the image of the government unions as champions of progressive causes, and exposed them as an “aristocracy of labor” (in Marx’s phrase) parasitizing the public revenue.
…
…this election will be fought more desperately, and nastily, than any other that comes to mind during the past century. This is an existential struggle, a political war of survival for the American middle class. If the government unions go down in the fight, the Democratic Party of Barack Obama will cease to exist in its present form – and that would be a beneficial outcome for the United States.
These are a few snippets from a longish column filled with tables and charts(!) – it’s worth a read.

I had my iTunes on random and a song by Bob Carlisle came up. I had forgotten what a great voice he has.
I couldn’t find the VT video of the one I wanted but this one is pretty good. You don’t even have to be Lutheran Catholic Frisbeetarian to like it.
Bob has one of the Great Voices in Music. I hope you agree.

You would think that a porn star would have a hard time getting a worse reputation as a slut, but it’s possible, according to Business Insider.
Porn star Bibi Jones says an MLB agent would bring her out to recruit potential clients after Arizona Diamondbacks games in 2010.
Starting in the spring of 2010, the agent took her to Phoenix-area bars after almost every game and introduced her to major league players — some of whom she slept with.
She wasn’t paid, and never thought she was being taken advantage of.
“It wasn’t even expected for me to hook up with these guys,” she said. “It was just like I was arm candy for him. I was the one that wanted to hook up with these guys.”

Well, she definitely qualifies as “arm candy.”
“It was like a dream come true because I love athletes and baseball’s my favorite sport,” she said.
Utah Gang Problem–Update October 26, 2011

Retired Geezer’s FBI gang map (below) indicated a serious gang problem in the Wasatch Front area of the Beehive State. Eyebrows were raised at the level of activity shown. As a partial explanation I share a dirty secret from the seedy underbelly of Salt Lake City as exposed by the SLPD Anti-Gang Task Force.

Dang, Obama just continues to suck
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows that 20% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-three percent (43%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -23 (see trends).
The economy remains far and away the most important issue of Election 2012. Sixty-nine percent (69%) believe the U.S. is still in a recession.

I smell blood on the water, but there’s always the chance that the Republicans will screw this up with a lame candidate. Jeebers, we live in interesting times. Obama is ripe to go down.
We have them right where we want them. We can kill off the siren song of statism right now, for the next generation. Everybody can see that it didn’t work out too well in Europe. Germans are getting really pissed off about subsidizing loafers in Greece, and bureaucrats in Brussels. When the Germans run out of patience, the Eurozone collapses. The Germans just need to shake off WWII as history, and assert their national sovereignty. Like England, Germany needs its own currency.
Everybody knows that Obama’s Porkulus package was a failure (thanks Geoff!). The Tea Party is still energized. The OWS movement is an embarrassment to most people.
During my entire life, I have witnessed the creeping advance of statism in America. This opportunity to turn around is almost too good to be true.

Flu Shot? October 18, 2011

Mrs. Geezer has never had a flu shot, I can’t remember if I’ve ever had one.
Neither of us get sick very often.
What do y’all recommend?
Here’s a wicked looking seed pod that Lauraw correctly identified as Jimson Weed. It has nothing to do with getting a Flu Shot. I was thinking of planting it for the purty flowers but a quick search convinced me otherwise. Just about all parts of it are poison.
