Janis likes it when I take Mo’ Money with me on a day-long trip to Des Moines.  She gets twice as much done when he’s not there right underfoot.  So I took him with me yesterday on a shopping mission.  First, I wanted to use the Bass Pro Shops gift certificate I got for Christmas.  Next, we ate lunch at McDonalds and took advantage of their play area.  Massive germ factory if you ask me, but Moses had a great time, so it was all good.

Next, we went across town to visit Half Price Books.  I told Mo he could get some books and movies, so he chose a Thomas the Train book, a “Backyardigans” DVD and a package documentary about sea life AND sharks (4 DVDs each on both topics).  He made a tough call between the Sharks/Fish movies and another 4 disc set on Dinosaurs, but I told him “pick one, and we might get the other one next time we’re back here”.  I’ve got a bone to pick with those damn 1/2 Price People though:  they keep stocking those combo packs of a book with 5 or 6 crappy plastic toys (dinosaurs AND construction equipment) down on the floor where the kids can see them easily.  I know it’s classic merchandising to aim the pitch at the kids, but it’s annoying as hell for parents who don’t want to end up knee-deep in little plastic “footstabber” toys.

After that, it was on to Menards for hardware.  Mo’ has graduated from riding in the cart to wanting to push.  Of course, his “pushing” mostly consists of holding onto the handle & riding with his feet up on the lower rack so that I’ve got to do all the work, but it’s a step up.

Last stop of the night was Hy-Vee for dinner.  I called Janis to see what she wanted for dinner, and the message was “let someone else do the cooking”.  So we got beef broccoli & sesame chicken from the Chinese Express at the deli. Mo’ is picky as hell about his food nowadays, so he was dead set against sesame chicken even after we told him that it’s “Chinese chicken nuggets”.  After a massive campaign, he finally took a bite……then when he decided it was delicious, he polished off his whole plate.  He agreed to NOT say “it’s yucky” next time I want him to try something without trying it first, but we’ll see how that goes.

It was dark when we set out for home, so I’m not sure how long he made it while I was listening to the radio.  I kept telling him “this is a GREAT song, Mo!”, but I think he zoned me out after #3 or so.  Well, I don’t care if he WAS tired, they were great songs, dammit!

This one wasn’t one of my faves “back in the day”, but you gotta admit it’s a good driving song.

I don’t think Mo enjoyed this one as much as his dad did, but it was still a rockin’ time.

I even coughed up $1 so he could play a video game at Bass Pro. He can’t drive for crap, but he tries. I usually tell him “Sorry Mo, but the machine’s broken”, but he saw some other kids playing the game first, so that avenue was blocked.

As far as the Sesame Chicken goes, he threw up this morning so we stayed home with a “sick day”. I don’t know if it’s from the Chinese or the bugs that are going around right now, but he’s been OK since noon, so I’m thinking maybe it was the food. Maybe he had a point with not wanting to try the new food.

I thought I was the only person who liked that Sniff ‘n the Tears song.

Love it.
One of the great disappearing acts of all time.

Next thing I know, you’ll be posting Cat Mother and the All Night Newsboys.

And just when I thought he was OK last night……..BAM! A poop grenade went off in his pants. He was napping on the couch, then next thing I know he’s shouting “DADDY!”

I got him cleaned up before Mommy came home, and we’ll see if he’s feeling OK before I take him to preschool this morning.
