One Million Manufacturing Jobs by 2016? May 3, 2013

Posted by geoff in News.

President Obama’s policies have helped manufacturing rebound, creating nearly 500,000 jobs in the last 31 months. The President’s plan will build on that success, creating 1 million new manufacturing jobs by 2016.

So says Obama for America in “A Plan for Jobs & Middle Class Security,” a pamphlet they used in the last election. It’s accompanied by this chart, showing that they’ve basically extrapolated from the end of April 2012 to the middle of 2016, where they just about hit 13 million manufacturing jobs.

But their chart is a little stale – we now have another year of manufacturing job data to work with – so I’ve done them the favor of updating it:

According to their chart, we should have added 230K manufacturing jobs in the past year. We’ve added 70K.
