What’s your guess?

2. skinbad - September 6, 2013

My guess is B.

3. skinbad - September 6, 2013

Someone’s talking about corn. Russ’s ears are probably burning.

4. skinbad - September 6, 2013

He might start stalking this thread.

5. skinbad - September 6, 2013

Russ knows his stuff. There’s usually at least a kernel of truth to what he says.

6. skinbad - September 6, 2013

Sometimes he peppers his comments with salty language.

7. skinbad - September 6, 2013

A few more and I can cob off with all the recent comments.

8. skinbad - September 6, 2013

Or I can give up. This has taken the starch right out of me.

10. Retired Geezer - September 6, 2013

I’m betting that Skinbad was wearing his silk shirt when he posted those comments… the shirt with the tassels.

You’re just trying to butter him up.

13. geoff - September 6, 2013

Skinbad’s the cream of the crop. Outstanding in his field.

14. Retired Geezer - September 6, 2013

He’s like the Green Giant of comment guys.

15. skinbad - September 6, 2013

We have a bushel of good cob-loggers around here.
Now if somebody can just come up with one for “niblets” they’ll steal the whole thread.

16. Retired Geezer - September 6, 2013

*considers how to combine ‘niblets’ and ‘Bustier’, tastefully.

(since we’re just killing time until Geoff entertains us with his excellent economic/employment essay.)

17. skinbad - September 6, 2013

When I read about economics it’s usually like being in a maize. But once in awhile things come together in perfect hominy.

18. Retired Geezer - September 6, 2013

^ Just when you think there is nothing left to harvest.

19. skinbad - September 6, 2013

I guessed B because we just pulled up our corn stalks (and fed them to the neighbors cow). Cows go nuts for that stuff. Anyway, It seemed like we got one good ear and then one half-sized one off most of the stalks. The extension service says it depends: http://extension.usu.edu/htm/faq/faq_q=96
So I’m curious what your answer is.

20. Retired Geezer - September 6, 2013

I was gonna say 1 ear because that’s what most of the stalks had. My original guess (before I actually looked) was 4 ears. I did find one stalk that had 2 normal ears.
*cancels call to Guinness*
Our sheep and horses liked the stalks, the dogs not so much.

[…] the answer to the Corn Quiz is: Each stalk of (inferior Idaho) corn usually only produces 1 ear. Occasionally 2 ears will be […]

Funny, I was just working on such a post. It’ll be up shortly.

If seven of your lean ears eat seven of your good ears, I don’t know, buy gold or something.

Michael - September 7, 2013

I’m ashamed of all of you. This thread has turned into a cornucopia of silly comments.

28. Retired Geezer - September 7, 2013

I just got the ‘commodity’ joke by Russ.

29. wintersetruss - September 7, 2013

Now, now, you wouldn’t want to biofuel everyone’s anger.

33. wintersetruss - September 8, 2013

Actually, the EPA has approved up to a 10% ethanol content in these jokes, but any larger amount may damage engines and emission control systems.

34. daveintexas - September 8, 2013

I’m stickin with cornhole
