HP Goes Retro With Their Windows Offerings January 21, 2014

Delighted to see that HP has acknowledged the large market segment that loathes Windows 8:
Windows 7 is “back by popular demand”, according to HP, the world’s second-largest maker of PCs, which has begun offering the previous generation of Microsoft’s operating system to US customers via email flyers.
Against a backdrop where consumers, who buy about half of all PCs, have been equivocal about Windows 8’s tiled interface since its launch in October 2012, HP has begun trying to boost sales by offering people what they are more familiar with: the desktop interface of Windows 7.
Hey Microsoft! Your “blend all user interfaces into one crappy package” strategy? It is teh suck.
I thought you could just flip a switch in there and change the interface of Windows 8 back to the nerdlier Start Menu thingamajig. Turns out you can’t. But you can cuss your way to a Classic Shell!
My sister ordered a new laptop for me from Dell (she knows about computers, whereas I just know that 8 sucks). It’s one of the few that still had Windows 7, but they cancelled the order without letting us know. This is good news.
Windows 8 fulfills OS destiny. Consider this:
Windows 8 = bad
Windows 7 = good
Windows Vista = bad
Windows XP = good
Windows Me = bad
Windows 98 = good
Windows 95 = bad
Windows 3.1 = good
Supposedly Windows 9 is coming out later this year. I think it’s going to defy destiny and suck.
I heard they fired the guy responsible for 8.
I have Windows 8. It took a bit of getting used to but I like it. Basically the tile menu format is just everything on the Start button laid out. I do miss the right-click context popup menu though. We finally got Win 7 at work this summer. Definitely a major bump up from XP.
Win ’98 was completely unstable. I’ve NEVER had such a buggy system before or since.
It took a bit of getting used to but I like it.
*takes out notepad* That’s it, Mitchell, you’re going on the list.
Holy crap! Mitchell breaks 2 years of radio silence for THAT?
*gazes fondly and the hand crocheted hot sauce cozy by Mitchell Knits.
Mitchell!! What the hell? On the List, indeed.
* sneaks off to the side
(Hey dude, how are you doing?)
Yay! I made The List!
Sorry, I’ve kinda wandered off the blog reservation for a while. How are all y’all doing?
I had to change my name to un-Retired Geezer. I’m back in Showbiz.
wait what?
