Boycotting Firefox April 5, 2014

Instapundit provided a link to the Firefox comment board, where people are hammering Firefox management for their treatment of Brendan Eich (who was ousted from Firefox for daring to make a political contribution to an anti-gay marriage cause). If you’re a Firefox user (as I have been forever), I suggest you consider alternate browsers (as I am).

And then let Firefox know what you think here.

Just tried Google Chrome, Opera, Yandex, and Maxthon. Among that admittedly small set of candidates, Maxthon gave me the most control over my browsing experience and settings, which is my first criterion in selecting a browser. Not as much control as Firefox/Waterfox, unfortunately, but a decent amount.

Dang – should have made the title “Fire Firefox.” Oh well.

I was going to mention that I recently changed my homepage as well. After something like 15 years with a Yahoo homepage, they recently forced me to adopt their new, suckier homepage format. So I switched to Protopage, which I think is far superior.

After being entrenched in my ways for 15 years (I’ve been using Mozilla browsers for that long as well), it’s weird to suddenly revamp my internet experience.

Safari works.

I think about my browser like my operating system: I shouldn’t have to think about it.

Unfortunately Apple stopped supporting Safari for Windows last year.

I also was a long-time Firefox user, until about a year when it began crashing on me and I couldn’t fix it after hours of investigation. I surrendered to the Evil Empire and started using IE. Works fine. IE is now just as secure and feature rich as Firefox, and Mozilla IMHO no longer deserves to be applauded as a bunch of cool rebel techie upstarts after the shameful incident that Geoff discusses in the post.

Not to say I told you so, but I’ve been using something that isn’t Firefox since before they branched off the Chimera/Camino project.

I remember the browser wars, man. I remember…at one point I was so excited because I had Netscape Navigator GOLD 3.0 (for free because I was a college student at the time). Much improved over Navigator 2.0, and it had this WYSIWYG….

…uh…

Sorry, sorta started reliving history there. Say, who wants to hear about the time I was attacked on Route Jackson? Oh, that was fun. We were just following the column North, up to where the…

…ah, I was doing it again…

Chrome. I loves the Chrome. Have since before there was a d3ft punk. Makes Windows tolerable (about the best compliment I could come up with).

Crap,. I wish this hadn’t happened to this guy. I’m still using Firefox but simply don’t want to take the time to change ONE MORE THING IN MY LIFE!!!

I’ll think-a-bout-it… *grimace*
