Well That’s a Relief June 16, 2014

The Obama administration finally takes positive action on the Iraq situation:

The United States on Sunday condemned a militant group´s claim of killing 1,700 Iraqi soldiers… The claim by the Al Qaeda splinter group — the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS — that it had killed Shiite Muslim air force recruits in Tikrit en masse “is a horrifying and a true depiction of the bloodlust that these terrorists represent,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement.

Yes, that’s your administration doing what it does best: hemming and hawing and talking about a crisis instead of acting on it. Ms. Psaki continues with:

Psaki’s statement said “one of the primary goals” of the group “is to set fear into the hearts of all Iraqis and drive sectarian division among its people.”

No, Ms. Psaki, their primary goals are to take over the country, kill their enemies, subjugate the Shiites, and establish a religious state. You see, you don’t have to worry about abstract things like fear and sectarian division when somebody is sawing your head off.

As Instapundit would say, “We’re in the best of hands.”

I don’t really think much of Drew’s arguments about Iraq at AoSHQ. He’s missing some key elements, such as the fact that the “Bush withdrawal timeline” wasn’t what Bush wanted. And his point that we shouldn’t have expected Obama to do anything differently, because that’s what he ran on, shows both the harm of poll-driven policy-making and just what a political animal Obama is.

Obama didn’t have any problems breaking many of his other promises when it was shown that they were problematic or impractical. I wouldn’t give him a pass on this one.

Michael, thanks for fixing the Shiite/Sunni mixup. This is the second time I meant to say “Shiite” and somehow wrote “Sunni.”
