Possibly the most amazing first two lead-in sentences in journalism’s history:

Baringo, Kenya: A Kenyan man, who surprised the world 14 years ago when he offered former US President Bill Clinton 40 goats and 20 cows for his daughter’s hand in marriage has died. Godwin Chepkurgor, 45, was on Friday evening killed by a stray elephant at Ol-debes village in Mogotio, Baringo County.

Death by elephant was quick in comparison to the many deaths he would have suffered inside had his initial gambit succeeded.

Brilliant answer.

Bill Clinton must be ruing the day he refused the offer.
The clintons could have had their own first black President, and Obama would have been sidelined.

“was on Friday evening killed”
That’s a weird construction. I guess it’s a Brit thing?
