If You Felt Like Internet Porn Just Wasn’t Enough… January 17, 2015

Let’s just jump right in:

…I’m transported into an orgy, where people are having sex all around me on a sun-dappled roof deck. I almost gasp when I turn my head to see a couple going at it, thrusting just a few inches away from my head.

I’m not witnessing this lurid scene IRL. I’m on an Oculus Rift VR headset at XBiz 360, a sex and technology conference in Los Angeles. The virtual sex show is the brainchild of RedLightCenter, a company that takes the idea of an X-rated virtual world and creates a full immersive experience for the user.

Ummm, by “immersive” do you mean…..

But Shuster doesn’t want to give porn consumers to imagine they’re having sex in a virtual-reality sex world. He wants to give them the opportunity to feel like they’re having sex as well.

One option is a Fleshlight attachment called VSTROKER that controls a Shock Spot sex machine, a motorized contraption that calls itself the “Rolls-Royce of f*** machines.”

However, that technology doesn’t allow the star on the other end to send pleasure back to the viewer. Enter Kiiroo, a teledildonics company that has pioneered a connected sexual experience thanks to capacitive touch.

There are more sordid details at the link, and they are fairly sordid. And yes, there’s a female version as well.

I thought the IB gents had already trademarked “the Rolls-Royce(s) of f*** machines,” but I guess that one got snaked out from under us.

Actual philosophical-type thoughts on this below the fold:

I was talking to my daughter about the downside of having self-driving cars and text messaging software that suggests responses. Seems like we’re heading to a time where we don’t actually participate in life. Soon our phones will be auto-texting messages to each other, while we sit back and do . . . nothing.

With this sex technology, it won’t be long (it’ll probably happen with the roll-out) before you partner up with software rather than people – kind of like non-player characters in video games. A shortage of real partners at the outset, combined with improvements in AI, make it very likely that AIs will be used to fill the void. They’ll probably be better than real partners, since they’ll learn to provide the user with exactly the responses they want, and soon we’ll all just be humping software instead of interacting with people.

Given that people are already suspecting that internet porn is affecting men’s desire to engage in real relationships, this almost seems like doom for the human race.

If they do this, we’ll be seeing a lot more of these sorts of articles:

Man dies after three-day internet gaming binge

I’m not sure if it’s real or not but I’ve read stories describing internet porn and video games as factors in the rate of decreasing crime. If this is true then, for me anyway, it seems like a mixed bag. We’re all happy crime is down which is the upside. Replacing real life with a fake version is worrisome.

“Given that people are already suspecting that internet porn is affecting men’s desire to engage in real relationships, this almost seems like doom for the human race.”

I heard some radio guys wondering aloud whether the human race could invent a food so delicious that it would kill us all.

I hope I die before “teledildonics”is a word on Wheel of Fortune.
