He should consider a career change February 18, 2015

I’m actually glad he didn’t get shot this time.

There comes a time in every young man’s life when he needs to seriously consider his career options.

The people who know him in the comments is kind of interesting. Don’t usually see that. Looks like he may be a touch mentally ill.

I noticed that too, which is one of the reasons I’m glad he didn’t get killed. Getting shot to death by a store clerk in Oklahoma isn’t unusual. I’d bet half the citizens in this state own at least one gun and it’s probably higher for folks that own/run these little mom and pop stores.

I think some of the “friends” are in the category of people that would blame the store clerk for getting robbed instead of the robber for doing the robbing. I live in the suburbs, but work in OKC. That seems to be a fairly normal reaction amongst a certain demographic here. They want police protection, but they don’t want the police to arrest anybody and nobody is willing to testify if it goes to trial so the cops are even less likely to hurry on down to the latest armed robbery.

Let me share a story: I live in an OKC suburb called City of Mustang. It’s probably around 90-95% white. Approximately 18,000 people and located in Canadian County which is the most heavily Republican leaning county in Oklahoma. If I call the police on the rare occasion that we might need help they arrive in less than two minutes. My friend in OKC complains that they take 10-20 minutes, if they show up at all. Then their attitude is that there’s not much reason to be there since they aren’t going to catch anybody anyway. This same friend was once shot 3 times in the back and he complained that the DA didn’t bring charges against the shooter. The shooter was later convicted of shooting a white person and ended up dying in prison for that charge. I asked him if he had witnesses when he got shot. He said of course, there were at least 20 people that saw him get shot. Then I asked him how many were willing to testify in court. His answer was none of them. Out of 20 eyewitnesses to an attempted murder, not one of them was willing to go to court and testify about the crime, but in his mind it was the DA and the police who were to blame for the criminal getting away.

If this same crime happened in Mustang, out of 20 witnesses there would be 20 witnesses testifying in court. We have a low crime rate because we don’t put up with crime in our town. Even after explaining that to my friend he still didn’t seem to understand why his attacker wasn’t imprisoned until he attacked a white person (in front of white witnesses). Society decides just how much bullshit it’s willing to put up with. Don’t complain when you’re part of the problem.

Same thing in my town. A friend of my daughter’s was recently shot in the stomach by a BB gun fired by a joyrider. They caught the guys, because the whole town was outraged. If that had happened in Denver, I doubt it would have even been reported to the police.
