Mansplaining – Not Very New Nor Particularly Offensive May 28, 2015

Posted by geoff in News.

Ace mentioned the fabricated outrage/twitterlanche over the Mansplaining statue at some high school in Texas. It’s led to a disproportionate amount of hand-wringing and mockery by the usual crowd of semi-professional offense-seekers.

But mansplaining isn’t new, and in days past it was dealt with using humor rather than outrage. As evidence, I present these 30-year-old Eyebeam cartoons.

Sometimes someone will assume you don’t know something, and explain it to you.

‘Mansplaining’ is when you lose your shit over this common and trivial misapprehension, and choose to smear the other person as a sexist instead of growing up and taking on the real problems of mature humans.

There may actually be a tendency for men to explain things to women more than women explain things to men – I wouldn’t doubt it. But I found that at any geeky/nerdy type event, both sexes can’t wait to assume a nasal professorial tone and start lecturing you on pretty much anything. It’s why I don’t go to sci-fi conventions or college reunions anymore.

I probably do it too, but you just know people need my learnin’.

*fascinated by geoff’s explanation*

*manspreads to augment mansplaining*

Pretty sure explanations have nothing to do with sex…

Seeing as the left wants to put “man” in front of any annoyance they can pin on men, and how pretty much everybody wants to put “gate” after every scandal, I think we can now coin a new term:

The scandalous revelation that men exist and dare to interact with the rest of humanity.

‘Manspreading’ is even more ridiculous, because the reason men sit one way and women sit another way has to do with the different shape of our pelvises. Science, and all that, you know.

I’m really getting sick of these ignorant, hysterical young females making all us women look like morons. They need better role models, but unfortunately there’s only one of me.

I think we should start putting -quiddick at the end of every scandal instead of -gate.

I thought we did that because of the balls

Alice, I think that’s the greatest idea ever.
