President Obama’s promise to create “1 million manufacturing jobs” within 4 years continues to look like it’ll never be fulfilled:

Just like the promises to double exports and add 1 million electric cars to American roads.

And that Stimulus package really did the trick, didn’t it? Gosh, I can’t get over how wonderful these new shiny titanium highways are! Like driving on silk, eh!

And all the crumbling bridges are gone, gone, gone!

Yeah – if you look at the July 2nd post on employment, you see exactly zero positive effect for the stimulus.

Our relatively strong manufacturing company has taken a dive this year. We aren’t laying off, but dead wood, or even wood that looks sickly is being trimmed every week. We’ve had two negative financial reports in the last two months. I don’t think that’s happened before in the 17 years I’ve worked there. The forecasters are looking at an upswing in a couple of months since it’s leveled off, but I know that when I left work on Friday we didn’t have any work scheduled for my machine on Monday. Most of the machine shop looked like that. A lot can change over the weekend, but I suspect I’ll be taking a vacation day for a long weekend next week.
