If You Were Wondering Why We Always Get Our Butts Kicked in the Media… September 25, 2015

…it’s because we’re not even in the game. It would never occur to us to prepare and execute something like this:

Sophie Cruz’s brief encounter with Pope Francis during his parade in Washington this week appeared to be the kind of spontaneous moment that is so endearing about this pope: an initially hesitant young child wrapping an arm around his neck as he offers a kiss and a blessing.

But for 5-year-old Sophie, the moment unfolded as perfectly as it was scripted by members of a coalition of Los Angeles-based immigration rights groups. They had been preparing for nearly a year for the young girl from suburban Los Angeles to make a dash for the popemobile to deliver a message about the plight of immigrant parents living in the country illegally.

They had even pulled off a similar public-relations coup a year ago in Rome using a 10-year-old girl with the pope.

They’d been preparing for almost a year? How can we compete with that sort of dishonesty and focus?

I don’t think we have it in our natures to compete with this sort of media manipulation.

I think you’re right, Geoff. We have honesty and ethics on our side.

Crap.

Stupid integrity. All we can do is expose and mock them.

Hmm, I think those undercover Planned Parenthood “sting” videos qualify as media manipulations from the right…and a lot more successful than that bogus snuggle with the pope.

3. Retired Geezer - September 26, 2015

‘manipulations’ ? You keep using that word…

Looked like a straightforward expose of the truth to me.

4. geoff - September 26, 2015

The PP videos were undercover when they were conducted, but they were overt in their presentation when released to the public (despite the PP camp’s unfounded accusations that the videos were “doctored” or improperly edited).

The kid & the Pope vignette, on the other hand, was presented as a spontaneous interaction between a little girl and the Pope, when in fact it was a long planned, carefully crafted interaction.

5. lauraw - September 26, 2015

The full unedited videos were posted alongside the shortened ones, just to prove there was no manipulation of context.

But the lefties screamed “HOAX!” and that gave their brain dead followers an excuse to ignore the problematic ethics of creating a lucrative market for dead kids.

6. digitalbrownshirt - September 26, 2015

The kid scene with the Pope had all the spontaneity of a Coca-Cola commercial during the Super Bowl.

7. Mark in NJ - September 26, 2015

Manipulation is G’s word but I think it’s apt. The point is, both acts (PP & pope) required upfront planning with eventual media access as the objective.

8. geoff - September 27, 2015

No, the point is that in one case you present a false story to the media, and in the other, you present a false story to malfeasants so you can get the true story to the media.

The anti-abortion activist misrepresented himself, taped people without their knowledge, got the media to bite on his story and now may even lead us to a government shutdown.

Dude, instead of hand-wringing about how your side can’t compete (burdened as you are with all this integrity), you should be slapping high-fives and thinking about your next target!

…now may even lead us to a government shutdown.

I’m not sure that’s a bad thing. Less opportunity for mischief.

The anti-abortion activist misrepresented himself, taped people without their knowledge…

Yeah, we know, That put the sting in “sting.” That’s why you call it a sting. When you said it was a sting, that’s what it meant. Sting.

Not very nice, but certainly effective. Kind of reminds me of when the kid taped Romney’s private statements without permission (the infamous “47%” comment) and gave it to the media. Not much outcry about the legitimacy of that.

…got the media to bite on his story…

Which it never really did until weeks later, after Carly Fiorina made a stink about it. The media still hasn’t gone after it the way it should. And in the end, “getting the media to bite” is not the same as “media manipulation.”

…you should be slapping high-fives and thinking about your next target!

Not the sort of subject matter that elicits high-fives, at least on the social conservative side. All the high-fives came from Planned Parenthood, reveling in their organ yield.

These sting videos are a new and not widespread phenomena for the right. We have a couple guys who do ambush interviews once in a while, and O’Keefe for sting videos, and then these anti-abortion guys, who aren’t exactly part of the political apparatus.

But you’re right, we should definitely be thinking about our next targets.

12. Mark in NJ - September 27, 2015

OK I’m ready for a new subject…

Geoff- I was thinking about you a few months ago when I got a chance to see the Mingus Big Band at the Jazz Messenger in NYC. I have a friend in town whose father plays trombone for them and he hosted us. I didn’t consider myself a big brass guy but I have to say, I’ve never seen soloists like the musicians in this band. Each number featured one or two players steppin’ out, and like these guys were made their instruments speak to us. Amazing stuff.

If you’re ever gonna be out here, let me know and I’ll see if a show is possible. No politics, I promise.

OH. Wow. This is about people illegally profiting from selling baby parts. They are deliberately breaking the law, they are teasing bloody bits of children apart on camera, and talking about it nonchalantly. You glib, motherfucking asshole.

http://is.gd/9QoKib

Fuck you. Fuck you very much.

14. lauraw - September 27, 2015

Planned Parenthood does not use feticide in their 2nd trimester abortions. But they do induce.

One of the Planned Parenthood workers said on secret tape, that sometimes 2nd trimester babies are delivered before the abortionists can get to them, and so then all the tissues are perfectly ‘intact.’ How nice.

This means that some children are born alive. At a gestational age at which doctors are required by law to try to save their lives. But at Planned Parenthood, these babies are worth more dead than alive.

So, by their own admission, certainly many premature babies have been born alive there. As they have been in many hospitals. But we have never heard a story about the heroic rescue of a premature infant from Planned Parenthood, have we, Mark? What do you suppose they do when a child is born alive?

15. drketedc - September 28, 2015

Interesting how a story about lies using children devolved into the PP story. The PP story cannot be dismissed as an out-of-context manipulation. I don’t think the progs understand what that really is, because they have been justifying it themselves so long. As for the pope story, we had to pay the most money ever for security and we were expected to believe a small child broke through unassisted? It’s a sickening manipulation of an over-hyped event. If they had done this in Cuba, what would have happened? Torture and jail? But in America it’s a cutesy stunt.
