Quote of the Day October 17, 2015

Posted by geoff in News.

Ran across this Neal Postman (“one of the leading media critics of our time”) quote the other day:

Our politics, news, athletics, education, and commerce have been transformed by TV into congenial adjuncts of show business, largely without protest or even much popular notice.

[From his book, Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business (1985).]

Kind of explains The Daily Show.

When he wrote his book the effects were subtle. Now they’re celebrated.
