Geezer, just wanted to tell you that a pack of expired seeds you mailed to me ended up being one of the most successful garden experiments ever, here.

It was a packet of japanese green onions (scallions) you sent. Oh my goodness. I sowed the seeds indoors in March and transplanted the seedlings in a great big pot outdoors in early June.

As they fattened up I harvested those things all Summer long and the remainder kept multiplying. I kept eating them in Fall. The greens were impervious to several killing freezes. Right now the few survivors are in the same pot, now snowbound. I dragged the pot under the eaves of the porch today and could see that the onions had even yet made more multiples in the last (unseasonably warm) month. Juggernauts.

Once this pot dries out a bit I’m going to drag it onto the unheated porch and keep picking as long as they last.

Hope I kept the seed packet, because this is a variety I will plant and plant over again if I can. If I didn’t, I’m going to save some plants.

Thanks again RG.

That is so cool! You were the first person I thought of when we received those seeds at a gardening class. It was put on by the University of Idaho

They have lots of classes for gardening and canning.

Happy New Year!
