Anyone Can Blog ~ Commenting Is Hard
Good intuition, Laura. I dreamed I saw that illustration in a book. It was so strange that I decided to try to draw it. I liked how, in the dream, the fake bodies were moving in a jerky, unnatural fashion because they were being operated from inside. There’s so much about it that defies explanation: why were they in the dungeon? Why did they need costumes to escape? Why is the guard dressed like a Conquistador? Are the escapees heros or villains?
Those ‘fake bodies’ are happy on the outside, but desperate on the inside.
Artifice, manipulation, escape, ultimate failure.
…theeese are a few of my faaa-vorite things…
Like the ‘Being John Malkovich’, someone needs to enter Sobek’s mind and take a look. And drive away those squirrels while you are at it.
Indeed. I was going to ask if Sobek remembers what was going on in his life at the time of the dream, but it’s none of my business.
Just enjoying the nature of dream-art, for what it is. It is SO dreamlike. A sleeping mind will buy into these assumptions about the nature of the world. Of course, people can wear fake bodies. But they will be ungainly and easy to recapture. Of course.
But then again the scene is thought provoking when we distill it down to (in my interpretation) artifice, escape, and failure. What things in my life could make me dream this dream? I can tick off a few scenarios on one hand.
I love the little hands holding up those fake heads. And the shape of the fake heads is evocative; ultra-cartoonish? That means something, too.
I wondered at first if those were good guys or bad guys escaping. Generally, good guys escape from dungeons. Bad guys escape from prison.
But I decided that to me it doesn’t matter if they’re good or bad. Only the method they’re using matters.
I’ll have whatever Sobek and lw are having.
*scoops geoff a bowl of excellent fine vanilla ice cream*
*garnishes with tiny hallucinogenic toad, which freezes instantly*
*slides bowl down the bar to geoff*
Make sure to chew on the garnish, but very gently.
I have no idea what was going on at the time of the dream. Work has been going a little better than usual. My wife is still super in love with me.
Plus there’s the greatest spirographs in the world:
The radish-head people rose from the ashes of the nuclear fire. Their war to exterminate mankind had raged for decades, but the final battle would not be fought in the future. It would be fought here, in our present.
Good Terminator reference, Skinny. Those aren’t supposed to be radish heads. They are bags stuffed with straw or something, tied at the top, faced painted on crudely.
Geoff, that was hypnotic.
