American Bittern July 30, 2018

Posted by Sobek in News.

Nice little wading bird with brown and white feathers, and yellow legs:

And below the fold, some information about bitterns.

These guys are designed to stand still in the water and look down for food. So their eyes look normal if you’re at eye level. But if you’re below them, you see that they are actually looking down:

Herons and egrets are in the same family, so their eyes are like this, too.

Hard to spot in the wild

I bet they are. The plumage is really pretty, but obviously very functional, too.

I’m super excited about this guy. I feel like I really got the shading right.

Shading looks authentic.

Just saw this Biblical Wisdom explaining the difference between Rightwing and Leftwing:

New International Version
The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.

English Standard Version
A wise man’s heart inclines him to the right, but a fool’s heart to the left.

New American Standard Bible
A wise man’s heart directs him toward the right, but the foolish man’s heart directs him toward the left.

Ecclesiastes 10:2
