Nice little wading bird with brown and white feathers, and yellow legs:
And below the fold, some information about bitterns.
These guys are designed to stand still in the water and look down for food. So their eyes look normal if you’re at eye level. But if you’re below them, you see that they are actually looking down:
Herons and egrets are in the same family, so their eyes are like this, too.

Hard to spot in the wild
I bet they are. The plumage is really pretty, but obviously very functional, too.
I’m super excited about this guy. I feel like I really got the shading right.
