Going along with the surreality vibe of modern events. Via Digg:

Some guy taught himself 3D animation during quarantine and the result is this hilariously bizarre blog cartoon called Bimpson.

The people behind the Testicular Self Exam campaign are looking for the merchandising rights on this character.

Yep, he’ll make a fortune from Big Testicle

I was getting a Kirby/Jigglypuff kind of feeling.

Plus chinsticles.

THAT is disturbing and hilarious at the same time.

The comments on the UToobage vid are amusing.

I just watched this at 2x speed and it’s like a whole new world of Bimpson. Bimpson goes Hyper-Bimpson. Highly recommend.

Well I played it back at 0.25x speed and it’s like a demonic Bimpson. Bimpson goes sacrificial. Whatever you do, don’t watch it repeatedly unless you want Bimpson to put a curse on your crops. It happened to me.

I went .75 and it’s was satanic enough. Every time you lower the speed, it’s like a new circle of hell.

his hands on the keyboard made me deliriously happy

They’re kind of creepy at 0.75X.

And Hi! Glad to see you’ve decided to start slumming it in what are now the tattered remnants of the blogosphere.

So is he really Bimpson? Let’s check out the evidence.

On one hand, he never says he’s Bimpson, only that he guesses he is. How could he not know? Is this a Jason Bourne kind of situation? Is it possible that whoever told him he’s Bimpson is lying, or simply misinformed? Did he formerly think he was someone else, and if so, who? If he is such an unreliable narrator, I don’t think we can just take his word for it when he says he’s Bimpson.

On the other hand, his claim to be Bimpson goes unchallenged. If he’s not really Bimpson, it seems odd that no one in the crowd says otherwise.

The way he says “I guess I’m really Bimpson” might be an important clue. He sounds sad, like he’s resigned to it. This is not Jason Bourne suddenly realizing his true name. It’s not a lightbulb moment for him. It looks more like he’s accepting something he was resisting before. Like he always knew he was Bimpson, wanted to be something or someone else, and realized that dream was doomed from the start.

In which case I’d say, embrace who/what you are, you crazy little monster. Go out there and be the best Bimpson you can be. Look at that crowd. There’s no way they’re looking down on you in judgment – they love you for who you are, and that’s a beautiful thing.

So that’s what I think. He really is Bimpson, yeah, but this video isn’t about a name, but a much deeper question of true identity. In an important way, we’re all a little Bimpson.

A moving cri de coeur from a man stuck in a Kafkaesque nightmare . . .

12. geoff - July 3, 2020

. . . or perhaps an adaptation of Ionesco’s Rhinoceros.

13. Sobek - July 3, 2020

I don’t know if I can go with Kafka-esque. I considered The Metamorphosis, but it doesn’t really work. Gregor Samsa’s mysterious transformation produced disgust and horror among his family members, which was appreciated only on his death. Bimpson, by contrast, has a full capacity theater (as far as I can tell) of admirers.

14. geoff - July 3, 2020

Rhinoceros, then. Ionesco’s play about everybody turning into rhinoceri, Our hero being the last one transformed.

They tell me that Rhinoceros is a metaphor for how Europeans got all Nazified, with person after person succumbing to temptation or fear.

I sure never would have figured that out on my own. Metaphor is completely lost on me. Stupid high school French class, making me read metaphorical stuff so I can struggle with the language as well as the theme.

15. Sobek - July 3, 2020

I’m not familiar with Rhinoceros, but your summary makes Bimpson look a lot more sinister. The crowd is not admiring or accepting him, they are welcoming him to the Borg, recognizing him as fully assimilated and no longer willing to resist. His sad tone suggests a knowledge that he has lost not only his own individuality but even the will to fight for that individuality. Tragic.

Actually Rhinoceros has a lot of relevance to the Woke movement, with people and corporations who know better going along for fear of being cancelled. One after another they give up logic and reality and succumb to the pressure of the know-nothings.
