Pants on a Frog August 17, 2020

In the 18th Century, if you were a fertility researcher, it might have been your job to put tiny pants on a frog.

“You might value pants for their leg-sheathing, buttock-concealing and pocket-generating powers – but they can also serve as frog genital shackles, and they played a critical role in 18th century fertility research.”

I didn’t even keep reading the article, because there’s absolutely no way the author could top the majesty of that opening paragraph.

I saw Frog Genital Shackles open for The Pretenders back in ’86.

Plaid pants on a frog
Not stylish accessory
Sad amphibian

If we’re doing frog-themed haiku, then I have one to share. I composed this in elementary school, quite some time ago, and I’ve never forgotten it. I think it was published in a school anthology or something. I recently had the opportunity to share it with my own children when one of them mentioned they were learning about different poetic forms in school. They enjoyed it immensely, and they consider it a masterpiece of the genre. With that as an introduction, I present to you all a haiku that I wrote in the third grade:

Frog in a blender.
Red and green and red and green.
Anyone thirsty?

Thank you.

Sobek was all his teachers’ favorite, I just know it

They had meetings about me. Or so I heard; I was never invited to the meetings.

Sobek put pants on a frog
To thwart its desire to snog
He asked, “Will it blend?”
Thus starting a trend
Of quaffing a hearty frog grog

Just noticed how uncentered Sobek’s photo is.

He’s going to be haunted by you-know-who.

Nice poem, geoff. My favorite haiku ever:

Haikus can be fun,
But sometimes they don’t make sense.
Refrigerator.

I just now realized my link didn’t work. Huh.

Nice poem, geoff.

Don’t think I’ve ever heard those words before.

At least, not all together like that.
