Interesting campaigning situation this year.

We want Biden to talk more to prove that he can…

…and we want Trump to talk less to prove that he can.

I’m convinced that he can’t. And he can’t.

Looks like the DNC is saddled with Biden unless they’re planning a different October Surprise like a switcheroo.

On to the debates!

*assuming they happen*

I was thinking that the Dems would jump on Trump’s suggestion to delay the election so that they could get a new candidate in place. But no.

One possible calculation: if we wait until three weeks before the election before we force Biden out, the Republicans won’t have enough time to attack the replacement, plus the party as a whole gets a bit of a sympathy vote. That might make sense if they really do think the vote is more about Not Trump.

That might bring up the problem of Kamala – if she’s good enough to be VP, why not just bump her up to the top slot? If they don’t, they have a de facto glass ceiling.

At this point, I don’t think the debates or anything else are gonna change anyone’s mind. IMO, a sock puppet would be better than Trump any day. Fingers crossed for high turnout and a free & fair election (ie, the GOP’s worst nightmare).

7. geoff - August 27, 2020

Oh, I don’t doubt there’ll be a high turnout with the built-in fraud potential of the vote-by-mail scheme. Should be a record setter.

A completely immoral and corrupt record setter, just like you want it.

Putting aside conspiracies about voter fraud/suppression (plenty of those on both sides), the question is, do you think the Trump/GOP agenda is popular enough to prevail in a national free & fair election? If Yes, it deserves to win…but I don’t believe it would.

9. Sobek - August 27, 2020

One does not need to engage in theories about fraud or suppression via s vis the mail in order to have no faith in mail ballots due to sheer incompetence.

(but I do believe that mail in ballots make fraud far easier, as seen in New Jersey, or disenfranchisement due to honest mistake, as seen in California)

Why would you support a vote by mail system that will inevitably lead to mass disenfranchisement, simply because incompetence isn’t as sinister? Why not say mask up, stand six feet apart, wash your hands, increase the number of polling stations, and require photo ID?

What he said.

We require photo ID in ID.
(see what I did there?)

Monsters from the ID.
