Halloween Candy Calculator October 27, 2021

Posted by skinbad in Food.

Not a bad idea. Although I almost didn’t get past the ridiculous subtitle: “Don’t get stuck with dreaded mounds of extra Hershey bars this year.” What the H? You madam, are FAKE NEWS.

Mindblow: 7734, from Heroes is actually hell written upside down on a calculator: sabaton

Variables are:

Number of anticipated kids

Days to Halloween

Number in Household

Sneakiness/Snitching Factor

For me? I just finished a basement remodel (a giant TV with new carpet and paint around it). I’ll probably hide out there and watch something scary. My calculations aren’t very complicated: (number of doorbell rings) (zero response) = zero candy needed.

Squeeze the Day September 15, 2020

We made a few gallons of apple juice last night. A few years ago a neighbor had a big grinder and press and was letting people use it for a few days each to get their apples juiced. It really is fantastic tasting stuff. I’ve thought about making my own setup and have also kept my eyes open for a good deal and came across this small press: https://tinyurl.com/y5tn3k2m

I don’t have a grinder, so Mrs. S. got out the food processor and that did a great job of chopping them up. The rough yield seems to be about a gallon of juice from a 5-gallon bucket of apples. I was worried the press would be too small and flimsy, but it seems to be built pretty well and worked as expected.

The Intermittent Fasting Thing July 17, 2019

It seems I’ve been around a lot of diets and dieting lately. I guess it’s part of the age of my peers. I had a wake-up call late February (nothing serious–just “Holy shit, when did that happen?”) and decided to try intermittent fasting. Retired Geezer gave a little boost with a comment that it was easy and he had lost a few pounds. I’ve dropped thirty pounds since then and am as surprised as anyone because I’ve never really watched what I eat and I don’t have a lot of will-power. I’m just saying it because what R.G. said helped me, so maybe if someone needs a boost, it might help you to know if I can do it, you probably can too (if you want to). I’ve noticed people who have a new “life style” often want to evangelize on it quite a bit. That’s not what I’m after. There is tons of information on the interweb and YouTube in particular. I’ll answer questions in the comments if anyone has any.

I know I’m behind the times, but the times for me have a-changed. The IT guy took my trusty Dell doorstop away and replaced it with this:

It’s an Intel NUC. Kind of cool, I think. When is the last time you used the DVD player in your computer?

And furthermore: A neighbor called Saturday afternoon and asked if we wanted a hindquarter of an elk. My thrifty wife got very excited. Of course we do. That was about 3 p.m. We finished the kitchen Clorox wipe-down about 9 p.m. Elk are big mofos.

I should have weighed it before starting. It had to weight 80 lbs. This was a new experience for me–thanks youtube. Also, a neighbor I called and asked if I could borrow his knife sharpener came over and helped me bone it (huhhuhuh). New respect for butchers gained–my hands and back are stiff, but there is a lot of meat in the freezer and on the shelf (we bottled a canner load).
