It’s like the Onion, if the Onion focused on American Christian culture and was actually funny most of the time. A friend of mine who used to be the music minister at my church turned me on to it a few weeks back and now I find myself checking it regularly for new content. It’s probably not funny to people who don’t spend much time around Christians, but I usually find stuff I want to share with my friends at least once a week.
Trigger Warning: If you like Donald Trump, Benny Hinn or Joel Osteen, you might not like the humor. They’re frequently part of the jokes since so many Christians have opinions, often conflicting, on them.
NASHVILLE, TN—Taking inspiration from grim Hollywood reboots like Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, B&H Kids announced Wednesday that it would be relaunching the Bibleman series of superhero stories in a dark and gritty resurrection of the purple-and-gold caped crusader.
“While previous Bibleman encounters have seen the titular hero happily dispatching villains intent on destroying the church and the Word of God, this time Bibleman is really taking the gloves off. The Israelites didn’t show mercy to the Midianites, and neither will the new-and-improved Bibleman to his foes. We’re talking blood and guts galore,” the statement released by B&H Kids stated in part.

An apparent first-time commenter here just posted the 100,000th Comment at Innocent Bystanders!!!
The comment references a previous comment about Demolition Man. Here it is:

“WHY did you remind me about the three seashells, Ed???
Never did figure that out”
It’s sort of like “Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooie” or “the Noodle Incident” from Calvin and Hobbes–it’s best left to the imagination.
That is just the sort of insightful commentary on matters of public importance that has made Innocent Bystanders the most renowned commenters site on the intertubes which is not a blog.

I love how the video claims that the drinkingest of the monkeys are viewed as leadership material. Kinda like our politicians.
Size Doesn’t Matter January 21, 2009

I’m talking to women, not men, and we’re talking about head size.
That’s right, head size. There is a new cultural crisis in America, one which demands the immediate attention of President Obama, and probably the appointment of a cabinet-level “czar” with an adequate bureaucracy to tackle this compelling issue.
Young girls are being taught that a ginormous head is beautiful. You heard me. Their body image is being devastated. The culprit — Bratz dolls.
Vodpod videos no longer available.
Actually, I’m just trying out the Vodpod service recommended by Xbradtc in a comment thread below on this video I found at The Onion. I noticed that Eddiebear used Vodpod in the post just below this one, so I thought I would give it a try.
WordPress is really only friendly to YouTube and Google videos. Vodpod gives you a button on your Bookmarks toolbar that allows you to quickly embed videos in WordPress from other sites which use the Flash Video (.flv) format. It is super easy and works great.
By the way, although the video from The Onion is a joke, the American Psychological Association is officially concerned about Bratz dolls, and Barbie, of course (see page 14).
Hmmmm. Barbie.
That reminds me of the Best YouTube Lipsynch Video Ever!!!

Look, I know local stations, and the weather people in particular, love snow. It generates ratings. But this is ridiculous.
Download Helper January 12, 2009

Maybe a year ago, Geezer told me about this Firefox extension. I finally decided to try to figure out how to use it.
The extension allows you to download YouTube videos, and videos from hundreds of other sites, to your computer (without the annoying logos embedded in the corner). It converts the format from the proprietary .flv format to something normal, like .wmv or .avi. You can choose your preferred format. Picture quality is maintained. It’s free, but you have to pay Download Helper a one-time license fee of $28.50 to prevent them from putting their own annoying logo in the upper left corner of the video. That seems fair to me. You get an icon on your toolbar that will tell you when you are viewing a video that you can download just by hitting Cntrl+Shift.
Then your video is good to go for uploading into WordPress, which does not accept .flv files. It works great. You have a permanant copy that is not subject to the vagaries of being linked to YouTube accounts that got deleted (as happened with our theme song once), or which get involved in a copyright issue (as happened with my Lady Gaga video a couple of days ago which no longer works). Plus, the video works faster when it’s running off the WordPress servers; there is no irritating delay. The WordPress video also lets you go to full screen mode — hit the button at bottom left.
You can get Download Helper here.
Mostly, it still makes sense to link YouTube, because a lot of videos uploaded to WordPress will burn through our storage. But I think it’s worthwhile to have our own copy of stuff that is really precious.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Official Innocent Bystanders Theme Song, as selected by a poll of the readers and enshrined in the About tab, and without the YouTube logo marring this artistic masterpiece:
Also, note that WordPress makes it really easy for other WordPress blogs to embed this video. You just hit that button at the top left of the frame. Just think of all the grateful blog owners who are going to be thanking us for making this available.

Michael, it seems you were right.
Wow. That was difficult.
I mentioned after the big unusual freezes here that I keep saying are unusual AND YET we’ve had em back to back for the past two winters, that I thought we lost both sago palms. I didn’t even bother looking at this one until today.
Look closer…
