Recently kevlarchick posed the question “why don’t you guys smile more in family photos”?  We offered up all sorts of excuses theories wild-ass guesses explanations, honestly I’m not sure we really know.

It doesn’t seem to be a new thing though.  I found this old tin type of my Great great great great grand-Dave in Alabama, having been captured by a couple a Rebel troops.   It was taken in 1864 during the great War of Northern Aggression.

No smiles here, no sirree.  That’s him in the chair, lookin all worried like.  It turned out ok though – he was a new recruit to the Alabama 57th Infantry Regiment and didn’t get the memo about grey uniforms.  They finally let him go.  Gave him a big bowl o grits with some red eye gravy and said “go shoot yerself a buncha Yankees, Davey-boy”.

Not Retired Geezer… his wife, Mrs. Geezer.

In preparation for our upcoming Elk hunt, we went out with our friends to check to see if our rifles were still sighted in.

For those who don’t know, the size of the group initially, is more important than hitting the bullseye. If all your shots are grouped together, it’s a simple matter to adjust the scope to ‘move’ the group up, down, left or right.

The group of 3 holes on the left is her first 3 shots at 100 yards while resting on a sandbag.
She shot the 3 holes in the black part of the target after I adjusted her scope.

She shot better than all 4 of us.

I must be channeling Bart today. I’m in a musical mood.

This video is from the 2CD/DVD I bought Mrs. Geezer for her birthday.

The whole concert rocks but I chose one of her most popular numbers for this post.

Loreena McKennitt – Nights from the Alhambra.

My holy, fricken’, hell. I need an animated GIF of a burning batman. She’s been years and miles ahead of us all along.

A heartpounding score. A heartrending story. A barrier-breaking fusion of morality, sexuality, and rock & roll. No wonder SPRING AWAKENING has awakened Broadway like no other musical in years.

Hugh Jackman isn’t on the cast yet. But dare to dream. Dare to dream.

This is a clever video, I think you’ll like it.

I guarantee you’ve heard this song before… but where?

The song is called Remind Me by Royksopp.
It will grow on you.

An important day today. Sobek’s birthday and the naming of a new U.S. poet laureate.

Michael’s old pal Donald Hall is out, and Charles Simic is in. I once went to hear Simic read his stuff at a university event. I was one of the few males without a bandanna and an earring. He was unassuming and funny. I liked him.

Cornholing in Ohio June 12, 2007

It is a game. Played with bags of corn and a board of some kind with a hole in it and it’s like, I don’t know, pitching washers.

Very popular in Ohio. Write that down.

If you say, drove your pickup down highway 36 in Texas to, I don’t know, pick a bar… how about “He Ain’t Here” (one of my favorite establishments), and you walked in, and said to the patrons of said establishment “hey, let’s play some Cornhole”!

They would stomp the living shit out of you.
