Berlin Memorializes Gay Victims of the Nazis May 27, 2008

Germany has inaugurated a 600,000 euro concrete memorial to honour the thousands of homosexuals persecuted by the Nazis between 1933 and 1945.
I’m OK with that. Something like 15,000 gays were executed by the Nazis, and this injustice should be remembered.
So, exactly how do you memorialize such persecution?
The four-metre high monument, which has a window showing a film of two men kissing, was unveiled in Berlin.
Huh?
That cost €600,000?

Hate to say it, but that thing looks like a peep show.
Also, IIRC, didn’t the Pink Triangle originate with the killings of the gays in Nazi Germany?
great motivation, great concept, horrible art. public art of our moment: minimalist block of stone that says nothing and offends no one. although one could say this one’s so bad, it’s offensive.
Doesn’t it seem like they’re imprisoning the gay people?
Yep. Peep show.
Big black cube as a memorial for gay people.
Now…think just whom this will offend.
Call for beheading in 3…2…1…
That monument is teh ghey.
German art has sucked since the late 19th Century Romantic Movement petered out. This is yet another example.
Can you imagine how long it’s going to take to get that €600,000 back at $.25 a pop?
You’re right, Cathy: peep show!!!!
Musli, you cracked me up — excellent point. hehehee
There’s an empty lot not far from me with a concrete cube in the middle. I thought it was a cistern, but apparently its a work of artistic wonder.
but apparently its a work of artistic wonder.
Possibly. It all depends on how much it cost.
If pigeons crap on it, it’s art.
Big deal, we have one of these at Camp Geezer. You put a quarter in and you see this repeating video.
Yeah it’s safe for work and anywhere else.
€600K is like 1.2 million dollars. For a block of concrete with a hole in it and a short film of 2 guys kissing?
That does it, I’m going to Germany to sell Art! In a matter of a few years, I should be running the place… wait, that already happened, didn’t it?
Aside from the peepshow, doesn’t this strike anyone as looking like a… closet? Or maybe even a gas chamber?
