States Should Lead The Fight Against Global Warming July 21, 2007

At least this proposal appeals to my strong bias towards federalism.
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – States should develop creative approaches to climate change, just as they have with challenges such as health care, despite their different economic interests, governors said Saturday.
“No individual state is going to solve the climate change problem, but we can do our part,” Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty said. “In the absence of national or international consensus or progress, we have the opportunity to show the way.”
I like that — states do tend to be more “creative” than the bureaucrats in Washington. In Gov. Pawlenty’s state of Minnesota, for example, they could creatively seek ways to address the global warming caused by the burps and farts emitted by their frickin’ dairy cattle.
Talks on state-level climate policy were planned for the annual National Governors Association meeting this weekend at a resort on Lake Michigan, where receding water levels have touched off debate over the effects of global warming on the Great Lakes.
Stephen Johnson, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, and the European Union’s environmental affairs counselor joined the discussion. The EPA has clashed with some states that are pushing for greater authority to regulate greenhouse gases, particularly automobile exhaust emissions.
“With the states taking action, even if you don’t have 100 percent of America, you can have 40 or 50 percent or more, and that’s a good start,” Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell said. “We can’t just wait around for the federal government.”
Great idea, Eddie. Your smoggy industrial state should get cracking on this issue. Try the punitive regulatory approach. That will get your polluting (and job-creating) businesses to move somewhere else like, erm, Ohio.
Now, I’m not saying that my own state of Ohio should not chip in. No sirree Bob. We Ohioans should be in the vanguard of the effort to save our planet.
I have an idea. We should do this by planting a gajillion acres of corn to eat up those greenhouse gases and produce a renewable alternative energy source to replace fossil fuels.
Huh? You say we already did that?
Heh. I guess we can relax.

From the local level to the national to the international I feel somebody trying their damnedest to get farther into my wallet.
And I don’t much care for it.

Trouble brewing…
California leads the way.

You think the readers of Dairycattle News are going to be udderly pissed off?
I’m sure they won’t cow-tow to Michael’s demands.
Well, you have to admit they have a legitimate beef.
We have no right to horn in on their gig.
I see we’re going to milk this thread for all its worth.
Well, you don’t have to get Bossie about it.

This cud lead to massive government intervention. Perhaps we should all chew on that a bit.
As Michael alluded, those states are likely to suffer when local businesses stampede to greener pastures.
One time I tried to get 27 cows in a small barn but there wasn’t enough ruminant.
Since I’ve never lived on a farm, I really don’t get what their beef is.
dammit. sorry brew, tried to steal your line.
I should probably just steer clear of this thread altogether.
Looks like the Dairy industry might want to start a moovement against this heresy.
Ouch, Brew, that was like the worst joke I’ve heifer read.
I’m not convinced that global warming is all that they are claiming it to be…. but then again, maybe the info that I’ve gotten is biased.
I don’t heiffer want to here about global warming again.
Easy does it, settle down, put your guns back in your holsteins.
I don’t put too much stock into what the Global Warming alarmists say. Seriously, I think they are all trying to buffalo us.
HAY! They may have a point, but your silage may vary.
Global warming is a religion for the easily lead and gullibull.
Don’t we all have a steak in this issue, though?
All the arguments by the global warming folks are homogenized—just herd mentality.
wiserbud, I will not make a lactose joke.
I think they are skimming only the data that supports their whole premise. I doubt more that 2% of their information is correct.
The data used in global warming arguments is specious and cowincidental.
Cow farts are only a drop in the bucket yet the environmentalist seem to regard this issue as a teat-for-tat opportunity.
wiserbud, I will not make a lactose joke.
I’m glad because I couldn’t tolerate it.
Seriously, this is all bull, and it tends to make me see red.
When it comes to facts versus fiction on this issue, sadly, we tend to really get only half and half.
I’d like to see a good round-up of all the data out there.
You guys are starting to get me MAD!!!!!11!!
Do I believe in global warming? No. Thanks for oxen.
I’ve about had it with this topic—you’re gonna have to roll me outta here on a Guernsey.
They say it’s about Global Warming, but it’s just another ploy to milk businesses of their profits- just another clash between the half-and-half nots.
Cuffy, you have a rare talent. Well-done.
Cuffy, you have a rare talent. Well-done.
I’d like to grill him and find out where he got it from.
I suspect there’s a sympathetic IBer am-angus.
They can’t hide though. Their Jersey would be a dead giveaway.
Rendell is just trying to cattle our rage.
Here I am bringing up the flank again.
[…] Commenters at Innocent Bystanders are the wittiest. Period. […]
I think PattyAnn is either trying to butter us up or churn controversy.
PattyAnn is veally nice and it behooves us all to thank her.
I’m commenting around so I don’t put all my eggs in one brisket.
We polled heifers and they agree that global warming is bulls**t.
You people just don’t have the courage to face the facts about global warming. You’re all cowherds.
The states are going to have to calf up some serious money to fund these global warming programs.
And these jokes are about to make me calf up my lunch.
I can’t believe you uddered those thoughts out loud.
I want to ruminate on global warming before I make up my mind.
I gaucho global warming program right here pal.
I need a vaca-tion from all this.
There is a lot of personal angus concerning this issue.
You like our jokes about a cow PattyAnn?
We’ve made quite a few silly jokes here Anjou wouldn’t believe how many more we can come up with.
I think y’all are the cream of the crop (there! combined hoof and turf)
Global warming is real! There is no excuse for leathergy. We cannot hide from the crisis.
It is imperative that we reduce the cowpieous output of greenhouse gases.
It’s the silly stuff that tends to brangus together.
I feel like I’m reading a xanth novel, only actually entertaining.
WP, it aPiers that was an udder novel.
I hope that we’re all branded as Global Warming deniers.
If I go and stick my hoof in my mouth, will Kevlarchick have to shoot me?
BLAM BLAM.
All your comments are hopelessly bovine.

A little knowledge.
I am SO SORRY!!!
One word: Gore.
Global warming paranoiacs have sex with cows.
…
Okay, maybe I’m totally missing the point, here.
Gov. Pawlenty is a big dumb idiot.
…
No, I still don’t think I have it right.
Senator John Ensign better get his sh1t together or he will alienate his base like GW did.
Crap, Sobek is rubbing off on me.
Global warming is a total beef-tastrophe.
…
I think that’s closer, but I’m still not quite there.
Moo-tastrophe?
Get with the program croc-god or I’m gonna start callin you Hathor.
Don’t be a playa-hathor
Cow On The Lam In Miami
Like the newscaster who reported that two bulls, Black and Gus, were loose in the city.
The other newscaster, barely repressing laughter said , “I think that’s Black Angus, Bob”.
