Died of a Heart Attack. He was 71.George Carlin

I probably worked his show about 100 times. Always had a nice word for the stagehands.

He was brutal with hecklers.

R.I.P. George.

The last time I saw him live was October 2001. He was still at the top of his game.

It’s always sad when people you grew up with pass on.

Alav hashalom and borukh dayan ha-emes.

Not to be offensive, but is this the second or third of famous people death trifecta? (In other words, should I stop worrying about another noted personality’s death?)

Was just thinking of Harvey Korman, and while it’s sad that he’s gone, I suppose I should acknowledge he lived a longer life than George.

Yeah, RG, but did the guys get shirts?

Yeah, RG, but did the guys get shirts?

Nah, only publicity photos.
Even though he was nice to the stagehands, I didn’t care for his shows. He seemed to be a really bitter person after his wife died. People would buy tickets expecting to see the Hippy Dippy Weatherman and be shocked by his rants. I heard from a security guard that he reduced one lady in the audience to tears.

He was very clever and I was amazed he could talk so fast and remember all the stuff in his act.

I liked his opening act, Dennis Blair, better. Even though part of his act was yelling “People from Idaho SUCK’.

Well, they do!
Never a big fan of George. Saw his sitcom once or twice. I think I’m the only one who did. Heard the 7 words sometime in the early 80’s. I was young enough to think it was hilarious. Of course, my favorite was “Tit!”

George Carlin refused to accept obfuscation and deception.

He used clever and creative ways to open my eyes to it.

Brilliant man.

I will miss him.

Could one of you HTML wizards tell me why I see boxes at AoSHQ instead of punctuation marks in the quote boxes? It’s kind of distracting.

9. BrewFan - June 23, 2008

Pups, that particular blockquote has an unclosed ‘p’ tag nested in it.
I suspect the html renderer in your browser has a problem with that. Further down on the page in the ‘Gaffe of the Day…’ post do you have the same issue with those blockquotes?

10. Pupster - June 23, 2008

Gaffe of the day: first block-quote is OK, second one has boxes.

I see boxes in some headlines and post bodies too.

WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING TO ME!

11. BrewFan - June 23, 2008

The HTML in the second blockquote (in Gaffe of the Day…) is messed up too. What browser are you using? It is very picky 🙂

12. Pupster - June 23, 2008

IE6

*cough*

13. BrewFan - June 23, 2008

I’m using IE8, emulating IE7 because IE8 still has a few issues on some of the sites I use a lot, like iGoogle. I’m sure that’s just a coincidence…

Sadly, Dane Cook and Carlos Mencia still are taking in air.

I see….. Dead People Spudders.

Carlin was the type of person that I can’t stand. He reminds me of liberals like Susan Sarandon and her sorry husband Tim Robbins.

These people act like they know everything and everyone else is wrong. They act like they are great original thinkers but the reality is they let others do their thinking for them and then when they get the Northeastern left wing dogma down pat they regurgitate it to everyone else like they just discovered the wheel.

To see people act like geniuses when they wouldn’t know an original thought if it crawled up their mediocre asses/brains is sickening.

Robbins belittled dentistry in the South at the same time he was spouting off about how we must uphold the oppressed and poor. Like the Northeastern liberals who do his thinking he is against bigotry unless your bigoted against the right people.

Pups, I see the boxes too.

He (Carlin) seemed like an original to me. I never listened to an album, but he usually cracked me up in small doses such as Tonight Show appearances. I used to watch the comedy channel stand-up acts on my lunch hour a lot. There’s a reason I had never heard of most of those guys but knew who Carlin was.
